Mavericks VFX is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their Finance team in a hybrid role based in Ontario/Quebec. This position involves substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting, budgeting, and customer billing. The role combines client/commercial finance and corporate finance, requiring excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach, and a strong sense of ownership in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

The ideal candidate will have substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting and budgeting, and customer billing. This position will be a hybrid client/commercial finance and corporate finance role. The position requires that you have excellent interpersonal skills and are a collaborative individual who likes to put forward suggestions and ideas on how to improve the status quo. This individual will have a strong sense of ownership and accountability and a passion for working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.</p><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Job Responsibilities</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Oversee and ensure accurate recording of AP (GL coded for different types of purchases, equipment leases, vendor management, overhead expenses, etc.); AR (invoicing, aging reviews, collection co-ordination and follow ups); Payroll processed and cost allocations</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Support lease accounting under IFRS 16 (equipment, office space, servers, etc.). Coordinate annual fixed asset review and support capex planning.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain schedules across key accounts (cash, AR, AP, Inter company reconciliations, prepaid expenses, payroll liabilities, fixed assets, leases, deferred revenue).</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Prepare periodic financial statements along with supporting schedules, variance analysis and reasoning for same</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Assist with cash forecasting, reporting and monitoring studio cash flow trends.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Prepare and reconcile GST/HST/QST returns.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Assist with year-end working papers, statutory filings, and external audit requirements while ensuring compliance with Canadian GAAP/ US GAAP and internal financial standards.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Maintain strong internal controls and help improve policy documentation.</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Qualifications and Essential Skills</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">CPA designation (or progress toward CPA) is an asset.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in entertainment, digital production, technology, or similar fast-paced environments.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Advanced Excel and strong experience with modern ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non-finance teams.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Familiarity with Canadian tax structure (GST/HST/QST) and IFRS requirements.</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Additional Info</h3><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">We thank all applicants for their interest in Mavericks VFX, however only those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.</p><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">Must be legally entitled to work in Canada as specified and, where applicable, must have a valid work permit that allows the candidate to fulfill the requirements of the role.</p><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">Mavericks VFX is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to providing employment in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.</p><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">About Us</h3><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">Mavericks VFX is a three-time Emmy-nominated VFX firm based in Toronto, Canada.
