The ideal candidate thrives on collaborating to build a shared vision of our gameplay areas and directly contributing toward the planning and implementation of content to craft fantastical worlds.This position requires the ability to work onsite or in a hybrid capacity at the Obsidian Entertainment office in Irvine, CA.<h2 class="text-2xl md:text-3xl font-bold mt-10 mb-4 border-b pb-2 text-gray-800">Responsibilities</h2><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Design and implement spaces that support exploration, combat, and traversal</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Work closely with Environment Art to create a cohesive open-world experience</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Foster a culture of collaboration across all disciplines to bring our area content to life</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Script level logic, encounters, and interactive elements and partner with system designers on AI pathing, spawn flows, cover networks, and encounter rhythm</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Make independent creative decisions that bolster the game's creative vision</li></ul><h2 class="text-2xl md:text-3xl font-bold mt-10 mb-4 border-b pb-2 text-gray-800">Requirements</h2><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">6+ years of professional game development experience as a designer and at least 1 shipped title</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Strong familiarity with the Unreal Engine</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Working knowledge of RPG conventions</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A solid design sense, good communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work with team members in a collaborative, goal-oriented way</li></ul><h2 class="text-2xl md:text-3xl font-bold mt-10 mb-4 border-b pb-2 text-gray-800">Pluses</h2><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">A passion for RPGs, Sci-Fi, Tabletop games, etc.</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Familiarity with Obsidian games</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Open-world game development experience</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Experience working with Unreal Engine Blueprints</li></ul><h2 class="text-2xl md:text-3xl font-bold mt-10 mb-4 border-b pb-2 text-gray-800">Portfolio Requirements</h2>Pleas include examples from shipped games or a web portfolio demonstrating one or more aspects of the position, including videos, screenshots, and/or design documents.
