Sonar is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Vice President of Tax to lead its global tax function as the company scales. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and involves minimizing tax exposure/risk and driving value. The VP of Tax will develop and implement global tax strategies, provide guidance on tax structures, manage worldwide GAAP tax provision, transfer pricing, tax compliance, and monitor changes in tax laws. Responsibilities include leading legal entity rationalization, owning internal controls, collaborating with stakeholders, mentoring a tax team, and building external relationships. The ideal candidate will have a passion for partnering with the business and a strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

This pivotal role will be responsible for leading the strategic direction of the organization’s tax function as we continue to scale our business globally. The successful candidate will have a passion for partnering with the business to minimize tax exposure/risk and drive value for the organization. This is a senior leadership position within the Finance organization reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, and will interface with other senior leaders and board members on a regular basis.&nbsp; This position is an in-office position based in Austin, TX.</div><div><br></div><ul><li>Develop and implement global tax strategies and policies to optimize the company’s tax position, minimize risks, and support business objectives.</li><li>Provide strategic guidance to tax structures, advising leadership in strategic decision making with products and jurisdictions new entrants, mergers and acquisitions restructuring and providing tax guidance to ensure business budget and planning accounts for tax assumptions and considerations.</li><li>Oversee all aspects of quarterly and annual financial reporting for income tax and manage worldwide GAAP tax provision, tax reserves (ASC 740 and ASC 450).</li><li>Provide strategic and execution guidance on transfer pricing and its policies and related documents as required in all jurisdictions where the company operates.</li><li>Manage and oversee all aspects of tax compliance, including the preparation and filing of tax returns, reports, and other required documentation.</li><li>Implement and execute tax policies covering all tax matters including employment tax, global tax audits and tax assumptions as required to be incorporated in project assumptions.</li><li>Lead legal entity rationalization, tax equity buy-out and application of consolidated return regulations.</li><li>Own related process narratives and internal controls ensuring compliance with internal controls.</li><li>Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations at the local, national, and international levels, and assess their potential impact on the company’s operations and financial performance.</li><li>Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, operations, and commercial teams, to integrate tax considerations into business decisions and initiatives.</li><li>Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.</li><li>Build and maintain relationships with external advisors, authorities, and other relevant parties to support the organization’s tax objectives and interests.</li><li>Drive process improvements and efficiencies within the tax function, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance effectiveness and scalability.</li><div><br></div></ul><div><b>The Experience You Will Need: </b></div><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., Master of Taxation, JD) and/or professional certification (e.g., CPA) preferred.</li><li>Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in corporate taxation, with experience in a public company environment.</li><li>Strong technical expertise in tax laws, regulations, and principles, with a focus on US GAAP.</li><li>Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, drive results, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.</li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.</li><li>Comfortable working with ambiguity and being hands-on, with an ability to make&nbsp;decisions, start executing, and course correct as needed.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work on competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, able to anticipate challenges and develop proactive solutions.</li><li>High integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of compliance and governance.</li><li>A growth mindset</li><li>Experience seeking out learning opportunities for yourself</li><li>Ability to adapt to new environments</li><li>Relying on your resilience and influential ability, partner with internal colleagues cross-functionally, and with global teams, to liberate thinking and drive outcomes.</li><div><br></div></ul><div><b>Why You Will Love It Here: </b></div><ul><li>Our culture and mission set us apart. We are seeking a UX Designer/Senior UX Designer for a 6-month contract on the Frostpunk 2 project. Your responsibilities will include delivering creative UX/UI solutions for complex mechanics in collaboration with gameplay designers. You will be involved in concepting ideas through flowcharts, wireframes, and mockups, and creating clickable prototypes. Additionally, you will prepare in-game UI prototypes for early gameplay features, create assets for in-game implementation, and assemble widgets in Unreal Engine, connecting logic through blueprints. Maintaining UX documentation for the project is also a key part of this role.

There are over 150 of us here now. Some are veterans, with years of experience & AAA projects on their accounts. Others are newbies, who used to play our games few years ago and now they want tobe a part of the team. We like different things, play different games and spend our free time in various ways.
