The Editorial Manager, Features at National Geographic is a critical role responsible for assigning and editing ambitious stories across digital and print platforms.  This individual will manage the development, commissioning, and editing of various stories, focusing on reported projects across National Geographic's core content areas. They will leverage data and audience analytics to optimize story reach and impact.  Key responsibilities include managing workflows and team members, nurturing relationships with writers, and assisting leaders in scheduling and planning.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter passionate about exceptional magazine writing and digital storytelling, with deep connections to a diverse range of writers and a keen understanding of the National Geographic brand and mission. The role requires strong editorial judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

They should possess deep connections with a diverse range of extraordinary writers, and an eagerness to dream up new and creative ways to engage and grow National Geographic’s audience.Responsibilities: <ul><li>Manage the development, commissioning, and editing of various stories, with a focus on ambitious reported projects across all of National Geographic’s core content areas.</li><li>Manage related workflows and team members to ensure that projects come together in accordance with deadlines and budgets, while meeting editorial objectives.</li><li>Leverage data and audience analytics to develop and implement strategies for optimizing the reach and impact of our stories across platforms.</li><li>Form, nurture, and maintain relationships with exceptional writers; Develop and deepen connection with new voices and diverse perspectives.</li><li>Assist leaders in scheduling and planning for project publication and completion; supervise administrative tasks, as needed.</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>Minimum of 5 years of publishing experience that demonstrates increasing editorial responsibility with a large media organization(s), while managing content and teams.</li><li>Outstanding editorial judgement, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills.</li><li>Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, strong knowledge of the National Geographic brand and mission, and demonstrated expertise in related core topic areas.</li><li>Ability to take overall responsibility for concept and content, as well as manage creative relationships.</li><li>Keen understanding of industry goals, varied approaches to storytelling, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, on deadline.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal supervision, problem solve creatively, and exercise independent judgment.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Ability to manage and grow a related team while working collaboratively in highly matrixed conditions with colleagues outside editorial, including communications and marketing, and business support (sales, promotion, and development).</li><li>Proven track record in growing digital audiences and expanding brand reach.</li><li>Curiosity about the planet and our place within it and the ability to grasp new subject matter quickly.</li><li>Understanding of the editorial process from conception to completion, and demonstrated ability to resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems.</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, Editorial CMS (K4/InCopy), digital media platforms; knowledge of AirTable is a plus.</li></ul>Required Education:<ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree</li></ul> The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C. is $113,800.00 to $152,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  We seek a talented and passionate UI Software Engineer with extensive experience in React.js to join our dynamic team. As a UI Software Engineer, you will be crucial in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality web applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and backend engineers, to create seamless and engaging user experiences. Responsibilities <ul><li>Build and maintain user-friendly web applications using React.js, ensuring high performance across various devices and browsers</li><li>Work closely with UX/UI designers to translate design concepts into functional and visually appealing user interfaces</li><li>Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, following best practices and industry standards</li><li>Create reusable components and front-end libraries for future use</li><li>Optimize components for maximum performance and responsiveness </li><li>Develop and execute unit tests and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure high-quality </li></ul>
Minimum Qualifications: <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience</li><li>3 + years of professional experience in front-end development</li><li>Proven experience with React.js and its core principles</li><li>Proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model</li><li>3+ years experience with React.js and its lifecycle methodologies (e.g., Class Components, Functional Components, Hooks)</li><li>Experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux, MobX)</li><li>Solid understanding of HTML and CSS, including CSS preprocessors like SASS or LESS</li><li>Good familiarity with RESTful APIs</li><li>Good experience with common front-end development tools </li></ul>
