Job Summary
Silvus, a Motorola Solutions company, is seeking an Associate Director of Embedded Software Engineering to lead a team in developing MANET radios and advanced R&D projects. This role involves working on device drivers, networking functions, encryption, and security features. The successful candidate will improve engineering processes, product quality, reliability, and performance, and support product security and regulatory compliance.
Must Have
- Lead a team of engineers in hands-on development.
- Develop device drivers and board support packages.
- Develop MAC and mobile ad-hoc networking routing protocols.
- Develop efficient wireless multicast protocols.
- Develop network management software and user interfaces.
- Develop audio streaming and push-to-talk voice applications.
- Perform system-level design and implement security protocols and encryption algorithms.
- Support product security and regulatory compliance (NIST FIPS 140-3, NIAP Common Criteria).
- 8+ years of embedded system software development experience.
- Strong expertise in C programming.
- Expertise in board support package and secureboot in AMD UltraScale+ MPSoC and/or Microchip Polarfire SoC.
- Linux kernel driver development expertise.
- Expertise in network configurations and programming.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Good to Have
- Experience with different security protocols and encryption algorithms such as suite of CNSA algorithms.
- Scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
- Proven experience with audio codecs and stream protocols.
- Demonstrated experience with networking protocols such as IPsec, IGMP, SNMP.
- Working knowledge and understanding of NIST FIPS 140-3 and NIAP Common Criteria certification.
- Experience with communication systems and networking products development.

Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Embedded Software Engineering to join our Engineering Group, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. The successful individual in this role will lead a team to participate in the development of Silvus’ MANET radios and other advanced R&D projects. This is an opportunity to work on all aspects of the system including device drivers, networking functions and services, encryption, and security features.
The position is located at Silvus headquarters in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles, CA and is on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a team of engineers and be responsible for the team’s success on the assigned projects.
- Work with the Director of Software Engineering and the rest of the engineering team to improve engineering process, product quality, reliability, and performance.
- Develop device drivers and board support packages.
- Develop the software portion of MAC (Medium Access Control) and mobile ad-hoc networking routing protocols.
- Develop efficient wireless multicast protocols for mobile ad-hoc networking.
- Develop network management software and user interfaces.
- Develop audio streaming and push-to-talk voice applications.
- Perform system level design and implement security protocols and encryption algorithms on StreamCaster radios and other products.
- Support product security effort and regulatory compliance requirements such as NIST FIPS 140-3 and NIAP Common Criteria.
- Engage with and support customer as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experiences with leading a team of engineers to do hands on development.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant engineering fields.
- 8+ years of relevant embedded system software development experience.
- Strong expertise in C programming
- Expertise in board support package and secureboot in AMD UltraScale+ MPSoC and/or Microchip Polarfire SoC based products.
- Linux kernel driver development expertise.
- Expertise in network configurations and programming.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

COMPENSATION: $200,000 - $250,000/annually
The pay range is NOT a guarantee, is based on market research and peer data, and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
