Job Description

The Data Center Technician II at Google's Hardware Operations team is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining server hardware and software. This includes working with components like servers, networks, routers, hubs, bridges, and switches. The role involves leading troubleshooting efforts, contributing to data center infrastructure projects, testing hardware components, configuring and troubleshooting OS issues, and participating in or leading project teams. Manual movement and installation of racks are also part of the responsibilities. The position requires collaboration with teams to resolve issues and contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of Google's powerful search technology.

Minimum qualifications:

About the job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring high-quality physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and its components) and server software (e.g., Google's Linux cluster). You will work on the configuration of components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You will also participate in or lead project teams on installations and develop project contingency plans. In addition, you will be involved in the manual movement and installation of racks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting and resolve escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment. 
  • Contribute to and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of data center infrastructure.
  • Help test and troubleshoot server hardware components and designs.
  • Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
