Data Legal Counsel

TVH is seeking a motivated Legal Counsel with experience in IT contracting, AI, cybersecurity, and data regulations to join its legal team. The role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with data protection and new regulations like the AI Act and Data Act, and contributing to TVH's data and AI strategy. The counsel will also work on improving legal team efficiency and supporting global business operations from the Belgian headquarters.

Must Have

• Belgian Master's degree in Law

TVH is looking to reinforce its legal team with a motivated Legal Counsel experienced in IT contracting and regulations relating to AI, cybersecurity and data. As Legal Counsel, you will partner with the business teams to achieve the strategic objectives of the company worldwide, while balancing the need for legally sound and business-oriented solutions. You will be part of a legal team consisting of around 7 people (including one other Legal Counsel working on IT contracts and data regulations), enabling knowledge sharing within the team, brainstorming on complex matters and the possibility to gain expertise in a given field while still being able to work on a varied set of legal topics.

**Your role and responsibilities:**

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of contracts, and advising the business teams on various legal matters, mainly in the context of IT (e.g., SAAS, licensing), data (protection) compliance, e-commerce, AI, cybersecurity and the Data Act.
• Setting up and implementing the required strategies, frameworks and documentation to ensure that TVH is compliant with data (protection) legislation, and assisting in the further development of policy frameworks within the Group.
• Playing a crucial role in ensuring our compliance with new regulations (e.g., AI Act, Data Act, Cyber Resilience Act and NIS 2) while supporting our innovative projects, and contributing to the definition of the strategy in connection with data and AI initiatives.
• Consistently reflecting on how the work of the legal team can be organized more efficiently, among others by establishing templates or policies, effecting changes in legal or cross-departmental processes or using (tech) tools.
• Ensuring that the legal function, which today mainly operates out of the company’s headquarters in Belgium, supports the business globally.
• Liaising with external lawyers and other service providers, looking for providers that can deliver excellent value for money.
• Keeping up-to-date with relevant legal evolutions and developments, applying such up-to-date knowledge on a day-to-day basis and sharing any relevant knowledge within the legal team or providing training more broadly throughout the organization.

**How to succeed / Your profile:**

• Belgian Master's degree in Law.
• At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience, mainly in IT contracting, data (protection), AI, cybersecurity and general contract law. Excellent drafting skills and ability to summarize and communicate complex legal issues in a concise manner. Experience with IP law is a plus.
• Digital mindset and passionate about new developments in AI and data regulations.
• Real team player, honest, hands-on, convincing.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, demonstrated legal skills (combined with an ability to take a strategic view on the challenges and issues facing the business), and eager to work in a dynamic environment. Business-minded.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Fluent in Dutch and English. Good knowledge of French.
