Job Summary
Climax Studios is seeking an onsite Junior Character Artist in Edinburgh. The role involves conceptualizing, modeling, and texturing characters to tell stories. Candidates should have at least two years of industry experience, demonstrating creative flair, strong fundamentals in topology, UVs, and texturing, and proficiency in Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop. The artist will contribute to a team creating beautifully crafted characters for top published titles.
Must Have
- Ability to showcase creative flair and core fundamentals like solid topology, UVs, and texturing
- Deep understanding and knowledge in Maya and Zbrush
- Proven foundation in Photoshop
- Portfolio demonstrating flexibility and a good eye for form, shape, composition, and fun
- At least two years experience as a Character artist in the industry
Good to Have
- Good working knowledge of Unreal 4/5
- Experience using Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines
- Experience with Substance Painter
- Experience with facial blendshapes and wrinkle maps
- Hair authoring experience (full strand based and hair cards)
- Good knowledge of anatomy
- MetaHuman knowledge
- Examples of hard surface work

Climax is one of the leading creative lights of independent games development with an outstanding line of top published titles. It truly is an exciting and inspiring place to work in the heart of Edinburgh, overlooking the beautiful castle.
We are seeking an onsite Junior Character Artist. You will be able to provide us with examples of beautifully constructed characters, clean geometry, texture and material work. You will have at least two years experience as a Character artist in the industry. As part of our Character Art team, you will be asked to utilise your wealth of experience in conceptualising, modelling, and texturing to tell stories through beautifully crafted characters.
Requirements
- Be able to showcase some creative flare as well as displaying core fundamentals such as solid topology, UV's and texturing
- A deep understanding and knowledge in Maya and Zbrush plus a proven foundation in Photoshop
- You should be able to display a folio with a wide range of examples demonstrating flexibility and a good eye for form, shape, composition and fun - we love nothing more than to see someone who loves their craft and enjoys what they do
- A good working knowledge of Unreal 4/5 as well as experience using Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines is beneficial.
- Experience with Substance Painter.
