Job Summary
As a Legal Counsel for Media Law at Axel Springer Legal, you will contribute to the company's strategic goals with legal expertise. You will advise editorial and commercial departments on media and copyright law, both preventively and in legal disputes, including proceedings before the German Press Council. Your role involves reviewing cross-media reporting before publication, training editorial teams, and defending press freedom in legal confrontations, working closely with management to ensure its fullest development.
Must Have
- Advise editorial, executives, and management on media law, especially in expression and copyright law, and minimize legal risks
- Review cross-media reporting for expression and copyright law before publication
- Train editorial teams in media law to strengthen internal knowledge
- Defend our reporting in legal disputes to strengthen press freedom
- Completed legal studies with two above-average state examinations
- Experience in copyright and media law or strong interest and relevant practical experience
- Excellent German (C2) and good English (B2) language skills

At Axel Springer Legal, the legal department of Axel Springer SE, you will shape the strategic goals of the company with legal excellence – interdisciplinary, solution-oriented, and close to the business. The Legal Team "Content & Litigation" advises editorial and commercial departments of the company on expression and copyright law – preventively and in legal disputes, both out-of-court and in court, as well as in proceedings of the German Press Council. Together, you will work closely with editorial teams and management to help press freedom achieve its fullest potential – with the necessary means up to the highest instances.

What you will move with us:
- Advise editorial, executives, and management on media law, especially in expression and copyright law, and minimize legal risks.
- Review cross-media reporting for expression and copyright law before publication.
- Train editorial teams in media law to strengthen internal knowledge.
- Defend our reporting in legal disputes to strengthen press freedom.
What you bring:
- Completed legal studies with two above-average state examinations.
- Ideally several years of experience in copyright and media law or strong interest and relevant practical experience.
- Entrepreneurial thinking, pragmatism, and enjoyment of dispute culture, as well as a high commitment to press freedom (occasionally on weekends and/or holidays).
- Confident handling of complex matters and openness to new legal areas.
- Proactive team player with an independent, solution-oriented working style.
- Pronounced consulting competence, confident demeanor, and hands-on mentality.
- Excellent German language skills (C2) and good English language skills (at least B2) in spoken and written form.
