Job Description

The Marine Inspector, under the supervision of the Marine Superintendent, oversees nautical inspections and design development for new building site teams, and manages special projects. This role ensures compliance with international rules and regulations, coordinates with shipyards, suppliers, and Disney Cruise Line Operations, and assists with nautical aspects during official shipyard meetings and sea trials. The position is located in Papenburg, Germany.
Must Have:
  • Maintain Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Safety Standards.
  • Observe budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Attend all assigned official shipyard inspections.
  • Coordinate design developments with shipyard, suppliers, and Disney Cruise Line Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with international rules and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in steel and paint inspections or 8 years in Maritime industry.
  • Extended knowledge of cruise ship operation and marine systems.
  • Strategic thinking and solid business decision-making.
  • Task-oriented, self-starter, and team player.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

WDI Germany provides technical, architectural, and design services for new-build cruise ships, specializing in managing and overseeing the design, construction, and outfitting processes in Germany and other parts of the world.

The Marine Inspector, under the supervision of the Marine Superintendent, is responsible for overseeing the assigned nautical inspections and design development for the new building site team lead special projects as project manager.

This position will be located in Papenburg, Germany.

What You Will Do

  • Maintains Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) Safety Standards
  • Help the Marine Superintendent to observe the budget for the areas under his responsibility
  • Attend all assigned official shipyard inspections, including but not limited to: steel, deck outfitting, surface preparation, paint application, firefighting, fire detection, navigation, lifesaving, safety, security, environmental and medical equipment and systems
  • If needed, will coordinate between the shipyard, suppliers, consultants and Disney Cruise Line Operations for all design developments in the areas under his responsibility
  • Cooperate and partner with the onboard Disney Cruise Line Deck Department
  • Provide feedback on potential maintenance opportunities for the new building
  • Coordination with Classification Society, US Coast Guard, Flag State and shipyard to ensure compliance of International rules and Regulations under his area of responsibility
  • Assist with the nautical aspects of WDI Site Team during the official shipyard meetings.
  • Cooperate with planning for the Start-up Operations Team
  • Cooperate with the Captain and Staff Captain of the new vessels for coordination during the Sea Trials and until delivery
  • Cooperate with the Logistics Superintendent for all Nautical Owners Furnished Equipment (OFE)
  • Any other duty as may be delegated by the Marine Superintendent

What You Bring

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communications skills (English)
  • At least 8 years of experience in the Maritime industry or 1 year experience in steel and paint inspections in ship’s New building projects
  • Extended knowledge of the cruise ship operation and marine systems.
  • Strategic thinker; able to see the big picture and make solid business decisions in managing projects
  • Task oriented
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
