Market Operations Engineer

As a Market Operations Engineer at Base Power, you will be crucial at the intersection of energy wholesale markets and real-time operations. You will optimize Base's fleet of distributed batteries across ERCOT and other markets. Your role involves ISO stakeholder engagement, technical and business analysis, and supporting real-time operations to enhance asset value. Key tasks include monitoring ISO protocols, conducting asset deployment valuations, developing white papers, and collaborating with the asset management team to maximize operational revenue.

Must Have

• Monitor and interpret ISO protocols, regulatory updates, and market rule changes
• Conduct asset deployment valuation and technical analysis
• Develop white papers and recommendations to support market development efforts
• Collaborate with the real-time asset management team to maximize operational revenue
• Strong first-principles thinker who favors the simplest effective solution
• Deep understanding of power systems operations at both the distribution and wholesale levels
• Proficient in data analysis techniques with advanced programming skills in Python, Pandas, and SQL
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to create clear, compelling data visualizations
• Ability to contribute to external communications and technical product engineering initiatives

Good to Have

• Technical background in power systems or a related field
• Experience as an energy manager or in operating grid-scale and behind-the-meter asset portfolios

As a Market Operations Engineer, you’ll play a critical role at the intersection of energy wholesale markets and real-time operations. You will help optimize the performance of Base’s fleet of distributed, behind-the-meter batteries across ERCOT and other markets. Your work will span ISO stakeholder engagement, technical and business analysis, and hands-on support of our real-time operations team to drive asset value.

What You'll Do

• Monitor and interpret ISO protocols, regulatory updates, and market rule changes through active participation in ISO stakeholder processes.
• Conduct asset deployment valuation and technical analysis to inform business development and strategic initiatives.
• Develop white papers and recommendations to support market development efforts.
• Collaborate with the real-time asset management team to maximize operational revenue from distributed battery fleets.

• Proficient in data analysis techniques with advanced programming skills in Python, Pandas, and SQL.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to create clear, compelling data visualizations using tools like Plotly, Matplotlib, or Grafana.
• Ability to contribute to external communications and technical product engineering initiatives.
