Project Planner

This role is for a Project Planner at CAE, a technology company in civil aviation and defense. The planner will be responsible for project initiation, budget distribution, defining initial project plans, and managing the planning process and tools. They will work with project teams, recommend policies, improve work progress, and develop schedules for strategic contracts. The position requires strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, along with bilingualism in French and English.

Must Have

• Responsible for project initiation from contract to ERP creation
• Distribute the project budget
• Define the initial project plan
• Work with project team members as a project planning specialist
• Manage the planning process and tools, including deployment and use
• Recommend policies and procedures for work distribution structure and schedule development
• Improve work progress and review information to define problems and make planning recommendations
• Develop schedules for project teams or proposal teams regarding strategic contracts or bids
• College diploma or university degree in administration or a technical field
• Minimum five years’ experience in project planning and monitoring
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Relevant experience in an industrial environment
• Good organizational skills
• Accuracy and precision
• Good interpersonal skills & diplomatic abilities
• Good communication skills (written and spoken)
• Ability to manage time and multiple projects with tight deadlines
• Ability to communicate with customers
• Innovation, creativity, sense of ownership
• Ability to work in a very fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimum guidance and supervision
• Bilingualism in both French and English is required
• Ability to meet the requirements of the Canada Controlled Good Program (CGP) and ITAR requirements

• Experience with MS Project
• Experience in an enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment
• CAPM or PMP certification

Role & Responsibilities

• Responsible for project initiation from when the contract is obtained until the project is created in ERP
• Distribute the project budget
• Define the initial project plan
• Work with project team members as a project planning specialist
• Manage the planning process and the tools as well as their deployment and use
• Recommend policies and procedures regarding work distribution structure and schedule development. Suggest improvements
• Improve the progress of the work and review information in order to define problems and make planning recommendations. This includes analyzing gaps between actual/scheduled time and the money spent for a given project
• Develop schedules for a project team or a team tasked with a proposal regarding strategic contracts or bids that include complex or multiple mechanisms

Required Competencies & Experience

• College diploma or university degree in administration or in another technical field
• Minimum of five years’ experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience in project planning and monitoring
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Relevant experience in an industrial environment
• Good organizational skills
• Accuracy and precision
• Good interpersonal skills & diplomatic abilities
• Good communication skills (written and spoken)
• Ability to manage one’s time and multiple projects with tight deadlines
• Experience in program management, MS Project, and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment an asset
• Ability to communicate with customers
• Innovation, creativity, sense of ownership
• Ability to work in a very fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimum guidance and supervision
• Bilingualism in both French and English is required
• CAPM or PMP an asset
