Senior Engineer, Product Engineering

Western Digital is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Product Engineer to join their team in George Town, Malaysia. This role involves developing innovative products from concept to production, ensuring high-quality and efficient manufacturing processes. The engineer will focus on HDD-Media-Head performance characterization, guiding process optimization, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving digitalization initiatives using advanced analytics and AI/ML models for predictive analysis and KPI monitoring.

Must Have

• Develop innovative products from concept to production
• Ensure high-quality and efficient manufacturing processes
• Characterize HDD-Media-Head performance
• Guide Media Process Engineering team to optimize process
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize product specifications
• Optimize existing products for improved yield, cost, and manufacturability
• Support Media performance optimization from development to high volume production
• Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and manufacturing processes
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
• Drive digitalization initiatives in manufacturing
• Implement data-driven decision-making using advanced analytics
• Utilize AI/ML models for predictive analysis of yield, reliability, and performance trends
• Develop and maintain real-time dashboards for KPI monitoring
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or related field
• 2-3 years of experience in Manufacturing or Semiconductor industry
• Strong knowledge of data analytics tools (JMP, Minitab, SQL)
• Exposure to Python/R for data science
• Up-to-date on Industry 4.0 technologies, automation, and smart factory trends
• Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and teamwork skills

Good to Have

• Familiarity with industry-specific knowledge (HDD or Media process related experience)
• Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS)

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize product specifications and requirements (PM, Development and Process Engineering teams)
• Optimize existing products for improved yield performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability
• Support Media performance optimization from development to high volume production
• Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and manufacturing processes
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations
• Drive digitalization initiatives in manufacturing
• Implementing data-driven decision-making using advanced analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, or related field
• 2-3 years of experience in Manufacturing or Semiconductor industry

• Familiarity with industry-specific knowledge (HDD or Media process related experience would be added advantage)
• Update to date on Industry 4.0 technologies, automation, and smart factory trends.

• Willingness to travel occasionally for on-site manufacturing support or client meetings
