Senior Engineering Manager - Backend

As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Messaging team, you will manage a team of software engineers, overseeing day-to-day operations and strategic technical initiatives. You will shape the team's technical and product direction, guiding them through the exploration, development, and implementation of new solutions. This role involves leading product development, influencing priorities, mentoring engineers, establishing best practices, and ensuring project delivery while maintaining system quality and staying updated with industry trends.

Must Have

• 4+ years of experience as an engineering manager, technical leader, or senior/staff engineer
• 10+ years of experience in backend development
• Solid understanding of scalable, highly available real-time distributed systems
• Proficiency in Java, Scala, or Go
• Experience with Cassandra and Kafka
• Strong knowledge of version control tools, such as Git
• Passion for coaching, mentoring, or managing engineers
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

As a Senior Engineering Manager in the Messaging team, you will manage a team of software engineers. You will also be responsible for day-to-day operations and strategic technical initiatives, serving as a key voice in shaping the team's technical and product direction. You'll guide the engineering team through the exploration, development, and implementation of new solutions and iterations.

The impact you will create:

• Lead the team to ensure we build our product efficiently and effectively.
• Influence product priorities and scope, offering valuable input in decision-making.
• Communicate complex decisions clearly, weighing the pros and cons of different solutions.
• Mentor and guide engineers, helping them develop both technically and culturally.
• Leverage your experience to establish best practices across the engineering team and beyond.
• Drive project delivery by aligning with cross-functional stakeholders and ensuring the team has everything needed.
• Own the quality of the systems and services the team is responsible for.
• Be hands-on, balancing strategic leadership with technical guidance to support the team.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies, ensuring the team works with the best tools available.
• Build strong relationships and align efforts within the team and with external partners when necessary.

What you bring in:

• 4+ years of relevant experience as an engineering manager, a technical leader, or a senior/staff engineer.
