As a Senior iOS Engineer on the Client Platform team at Duolingo, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the infrastructure and tools necessary for fast and efficient iOS development at scale. This role focuses on improving and maintaining the stability and performance of the Duolingo Learning application across iOS, involving the development of tooling for metric integration into experiment analyses and leading architectural initiatives to optimize the app's slowest components. You will help teams measure and understand performance, optimize features, and resolve bottlenecks.

Must Have

• Help teams measure and understand their performance, as well as optimize existing features and functionality while evangelizing best practices
• Support engineers and partners from across the organization as they use the performance metric we provide, and use these interactions to improve our roadmaps
• Use and develop tools like Instruments to analyze the performance, resource usage, and behavior of the application to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks
• Deep expertise in Swift
• Proficiency in multithreading, concurrency, and synchronization primitives
• Deep understanding of ARC and memory management in iOS
• Proven experience in architecting and leading complex iOS projects at scale
• Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for tackling difficult challenges

• Experience using Instruments to diagnose complex performance issues

About the role

As an iOS engineer on one of our Client Platform teams, you will have the opportunity to build all the vital infrastructure and tools to ensure Duolingo's iOS development can continue to be fast and efficient at scale.

Client Platform, Stability, and Performance:

• This team is charged with improving and maintaining the stability and performance of our Learning application across the Android and iOS platforms. The team builds and maintains the tooling that integrates metrics into our experiment analyses to automate finding code areas that need attention and leads architectural initiatives to reinvent the slowest parts of the app.
