Job Summary

The Global Connectivity Services Team at eBay is seeking a Senior WiFi & Switch Engineer to design, operate, and continuously improve the organization's wired and wireless network environment. This role ensures reliable, secure, and scalable connectivity across offices, data centers, and remote locations. Key responsibilities include leading the design and deployment of new network solutions, configuring and maintaining equipment, proactive performance monitoring, and providing high-level technical support. The engineer will also implement robust security measures, conduct site surveys, create detailed documentation, and collaborate on network upgrades and technology migrations.

Must Have

  • Lead the design and deployment of new wired and wireless network solutions.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network equipment from various vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Juniper Mist, Meraki).
  • Monitor network performance proactively with tools like SolarWinds or Ekahau.
  • Provide high-level (Tier 2/3) technical support and troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Implement and enforce robust network security measures, including firewalls, security protocols (WPA2, 802.1x), and access control lists (ACLs).
  • Conduct physical site surveys (using tools like Ekahau) to determine optimal placement of WiFi infrastructure.
  • Create and maintain detailed design documents, network diagrams, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to plan and implement network upgrades, patches, and technology migrations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering, with specific focus on wireless and switching technologies.
  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting wireless networks.
  • Strong knowledge of WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, RF design, and WLAN fundamentals.
  • Advanced understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade networking hardware from major vendors such as Cisco (IOS, NX-OS), Juniper, and Meraki.
  • Familiarity with network management and analysis tools (Ekahau, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Splunk).
  • Knowledge of network security practices, firewalls, and authentication protocols (RADIUS, 802.1x, EAP-TLS).

Good to Have

  • Industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), Aruba Certified Associate, Aruba Certified Professional, Aruba Certified Expert or equivalent vendor-specific certifications.

About the team and the role:

The Global Connectivity Services Team is responsible for designing, operating and continuously improving the organization’s wired and wireless network environment. The team ensures reliable, secure and scalable connectivity across offices, data centers and remote locations, enabling employees, partners and systems to operate efficiently.

A WiFi and Switch Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, management and solve of an organization's wired (switching) and wireless (WiFi) network infrastructure. This role ensures seamless, secure and reliable connectivity across corporate and remote environments.

What you will accomplish:

  • Design and Implementation: Lead the design and deployment of new wired and wireless network solutions, including access points, wireless LAN controllers (WLCs), routers, and switches
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain network equipment from various vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Juniper Mist, Meraki), ensuring all configurations adhere to design specifications and guidelines
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor network performance proactively with tools like SolarWinds or Ekahau to identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Solve and Support: Provide high-level (Tier 2/3) technical support and fix complex network issues, including connectivity problems, routing errors, and performance degradation, to minimize downtime.
  • Security Implementation: Implement and enforce robust network security measures, including firewalls, security protocols (WPA2, 802.1x), and access control lists (ACLs) to safeguard data and systems.
  • Site Surveys and Analysis: Conduct physical site surveys (using tools like Ekahau) to determine optimal placement of WiFi infrastructure and perform RF (Radio Frequency) analysis to ensure adequate coverage and capacity.
  • Documentation and Procedures: Create and maintain detailed design documents, network diagrams, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all network infrastructure.
  • Collaboration and Upgrades: Collaborate with multi-functional teams (e.g., security, systems administrators) and external vendors to plan and implement network upgrades, patches, and technology migrations.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is often required, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering, with specific focus on wireless and switching technologies.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Extensive experience in fixing wireless networks
  • Strong knowledge of WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, RF design, and WLAN fundamentals.
  • Advanced understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade networking hardware from major vendors such as Cisco (IOS, NX-OS), Juniper, and Meraki.
  • Familiarity with network management and analysis tools (Ekahau, SolarWinds, Wireshark, Splunk).
  • Knowledge of network security practices, firewalls, and authentication protocols (RADIUS, 802.1x, EAP-TLS).
  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), Aruba Certified Associate, Aruba Certified Professional, Aruba Certified Expert or equivalent vendor-specific certifications are highly valued. WiFi certifications are a plus.

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$108,000 - $186,900

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
