Job Summary
As a Software Engineer for Developer Experiences at Google, you will redefine how the world interacts with data at scale by building an AI-native developer environment. You will create intuitive, fast, and seamless surfaces and tools, influencing millions of developers in writing, debugging, and deploying data workloads using AI agents. This role involves collaborating with product managers, engineers, scientists, and designers to create a unified, AI-accelerated developer experience, pushing the boundaries of human-AI collaboration on code and data.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years in software development (or 1+ year with advanced degree)
- 2+ years building developer-facing products, IDEs, or CLI tools
- Experience in Full-Stack Development, IDE/extension development (TypeScript/Java/Go/Python)
- Experience with Agentic AI frameworks and LLMs
- Experience with API design, UI/UX integration, and large-scale distributed systems
- Implement AI-native developer surfaces across BigQuery Studio, IDE, and CLI tools
- Design Developer Agents for accelerated development life-cycle
- Develop full-stack solutions bridging backend AI services and user interfaces
- Partner with UX, Product, and Science to prototype and productionize new interaction paradigms
- Drive engineering standards for developer tooling
Good to Have
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields
- Experience with Large Language Models for code (e.g., Gemini or similar)
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (e.g., GCP or similar)
- Experience with industry-standard developer tool frameworks
- Experience in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts
- Knowledge of developer productivity metrics

You will be at the forefront in this evolution, building the surfaces and tools that make data development intuitive, fast, and seamless. Your work will influence how millions of developers write, debug, and deploy data workloads using AI agents. You will collaborate with product managers, engineers, scientists, and designers to create a unified, AI-accelerated developer experience that redefines the boundaries of how humans and AI collaborate on code and data.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Implement and re-imagine AI-native developer surfaces across BigQuery Studio, Integrated Development Environment (IDE), and Command-line Interface (CLI) tools.
- Design Developer Agents that accelerate development life-cycle through autonomous code generation, SQL optimization, pipeline generation, automated debugging, schema suggestion and more.
- Develop full-stack solutions that bridge the gap between complex backend AI services and intuitive, high-performance user interfaces.
- Partner with UX, Product, and Science to prototype and productionize new interaction paradigms (e.g., natural language to complex DDL/DML).
- Drive engineering standards for developer tooling, focusing on latency, reliability, and seamless multi-surface experiences.
