Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Sr. Oracle DBA with strong technical skills across Application, Server, Storage, and Network technologies to administer a large, complex production database environment. The role involves installing, patching, maintaining Oracle software, tuning SQL/PLSQL, designing backup/recovery systems, automating tasks, ensuring DB availability, and proactively managing security. The candidate will troubleshoot and resolve database application issues, perform performance tuning, and mentor junior DBAs, contributing to a reliable and efficient database support system.
Must Have
- Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant work experience as an Sr. Oracle DBA
- Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies; preferable hands-on experience in working with Azure
- Experience in handling customer escalations
- Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using PowerShell, Python, Bash scripting or similar technologies
- Knowledge of PowerShell, Ansible, Git Actions
- Experience with DevOps methodologies and tools (Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Solid understanding of cloud Infrastructure environments, specifically Linux and Windows based deployments
- Excellent SQL skills and ability to write complex queries to pull and analyze data from multiple sources
- Good understanding of different file formats such as YML, JSON, Parquet
- Ability to work rotational shifts, including night shifts, weekends and public holidays for 24/7 application support
Job Description
Scope:
- We are seeking an experienced Sr. oracle DBA with the technical skills and knowledge that extends across Application, Server, Storage, Network technologies to administer a large, complex production DB environment and troubleshoot and provide system level guidance/ solutions.
- The role also expects candidate to learn BY’s solution to performs effective database administration and troubleshooting. This includes Oracle databases for production, testing, and development environments across the company. This opportunity will suit an Oracle DBA who enjoys providing technical guidance and who can play a key role in supporting and driving forward our database administration support. We’re looking for people who work quickly, willing to learn new things, self-starters, smart and do what is needed.
What you’ll do:
- Install, patch, and maintain all Oracle software.
- Tune all Oracle instance components including SQL and PL/SQL.
- Review and approve all production schema changes.
- Design and implement a backup & recovery system.
- Automate repetitive tasks by writing shell scripts/leveraging existing automation frameworks.
- Ensure DB availability.
- Proactively manage and maintain security standards and controls.
- Owning and resolving problems and managing customer expectations.
- Actively seek to learn, optimize, and investigate all issues related to database.
- Help in the creation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans.
- Help create a reliable backup strategy.
- Assist the infrastructure and Application team in sizing hardware used for the databases.
- Ensure database backups are appropriately executed and periodic restorations are exercised to ensure backup quality.
- Support and collaborate with support analyst, product developer and professional services.
- Proactively Identification of bottle necks and blocking and deadlock issues.
- Ensure SLA's & operational KPI’s are met, working as necessary with internal and external support functions when major incidents occur.
- Troubleshoot and resolve, in conjunction with Operational/Customer DBAs, database application issues across production, test and development environments.
- Broad experience in the art of performance tuning, utilizing OEM or third-party tools to finely tune objects and partitions in Oracle 19c, and applications.
- Experience automating, scripting, and streamlining processes for efficiency and accuracy utilizing shell scripting or other scripting tools.
- Mentor fellow DBAs.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree (STEM preferred) and minimum of 5-8 years of relevant work experience as an Sr. Oracle DBA.
- Strong understanding of cloud computing technologies; preferable hands-on experience in working with Azure.
- Experience in handling customer escalations.
- Experience in writing automation scripts, building application dashboards for proactive monitoring using PowerShell, Python, Bash scripting or similar technologies, ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
- The right candidate should have knowledge of PowerShell, Ansible, Git Actions etc.
- Experience with DevOps methodologies and tools (Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (OEM, Zabbix, Splunk, Solarwind).
- Solid understanding of cloud Infrastructure environments, specifically Linux and Windows based deployments.
- Excellent SQL skills and ability to write complex queries to pull and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Good understanding of different file formats such as YML, JSON, Parquet.
- Excellent organizational skills, able to take a systematic approach in resolving issues.
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
- This role involves rotational shifts, including night shifts, to provide 24/7 application support.
- Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays as per shift schedule.
- Ability to handle responsibilities independently during off-hours.
- Team player, fast learner, work in a fasted paced environment and share knowledge.
