Job Summary

This Staff/Lead Software Engineer role at CME Group involves independently engineering secure, scalable, and reliable technology solutions. The position focuses on architecture and solution efficiencies, balancing performance, capacity, and reliability with core system functionality. Responsibilities include identifying code optimization opportunities, providing input for code reviews, managing deployments, and troubleshooting code. The engineer will write optimized application modules and unit tests, utilize design tools, and apply knowledge of multi-processor architecture for high throughput and low latency systems. This role leads projects and influences stakeholders across divisions.

Must Have

  • Provide input for code reviews.
  • Help with environment build deployments, release notes, and build notices.
  • Review code to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues and defects.
  • Write optimized application modules and unit tests with minimal guidance.
  • Use design tools to frequently share and communicate design ideas on larger systems.
  • Utilize knowledge of modern multi-processor architecture to tune applications.
  • Use patterns frequently, contributing to best practice and process enhancements.
  • Define key metrics driving code optimization and lead discussion of code reviews.
  • Manage environment build deployments, release notes, and build notices.
  • Lead projects and influence across Division stakeholders.
  • 8+ years of Core Java development experience.
  • Ability to evaluate the characteristics of algorithms and data structures.
  • Proficiency in Multi-threading, concurrent data structures, shared memory, synchronization, JNI, NIO, Hashmap.
  • Understands queue theory and various designs and implementations.
  • Experience working with networking protocols (UDP, TCP).

Good to Have

  • Experience with Cloud Technology.
  • Familiarity with redundancy and fault tolerance techniques.
  • Familiar with JVM internals and garbage collection tuning.
  • Familiar with BDD test tools.
  • Past experience working in Financial domain or Derivative Exchange.

This role independently engineers secure, scalable and reliable technology solutions, with minimal mentoring, to advance CME Group in the global marketplace and serve risk management needs of customers around the world.

Principal Accountabilities

8+ years of Core Java development experience.

  • Focuses on Architecture and Solution efficiencies.
  • Balances performance, capacity and reliability with core system functionality.
  • Identifies potential opportunities for code optimization.
  • Provides input for code reviews and helps with environment build deployments, release notes and build notices;
  • Reviews code to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues and defects and helps to identify sources of defects as well as troubleshoots various forms of code.
  • Writes optimized application modules and unit tests with minimal guidance.
  • Uses design tools to frequently share and communicate design ideas on larger systems.
  • Utilizes knowledge of modern multi-processor architecture to tune the applications and systems for high throughput and low latency.
  • Uses patterns frequently, contributing to best practice and process enhancements
  • Defines key metrics driving code optimization and leads discussion of code reviews.
  • Manages environment build deployments, release notes and build notices.
  • Leads projects and influences across Division stakeholders

Skills & Software Requirements

  • A Senior Engineer with in-depth core Java development experience.
  • Ability to evaluate the characteristics of algorithms and data structures for the given constraint
  • Proficiency in Multi-threading , concurrent data structures, shared memory, synchronization, JNI, NIO, Hashmap etc.
  • Understands queue theory and various designs and implementations to enhance system performance.
  • Experience working with networking protocols (UDP, TCP)
  • Experience with Cloud Technology preferred
  • Familiarity with redundancy and fault tolerance techniques
  • Familiar with JVM internals and garbage collection tuning
  • Familiar with BDD test tools preferred
  • Past experience working in Financial domain or Derivative Exchange preferred

Hybrid environment- 2 days in the office

The pay range for this role is $122,300-$203,900. Actual salary offered will be dependent on a wide array of factors including but not limited to: relevant experience, skills, education and comparison to internal employees (where relevant).
