The Workroom Manager oversees a team of skilled artisans responsible for costume production, ensuring timely and high-quality execution of character costumes. This role involves managing workflow, budgeting, and collaborating with costumers, designers, buyers, and vendors. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in garment construction, alterations, and fitting, as well as leadership skills and strong communication abilities.
Must have:
  • 3+ years garment construction, alterations, and patterning experience
  • 3+ years leading garment/costume fittings
  • Experience with performers in various stages of dress/undress
  • Experience with sewing terms, fabric types, and garment notions
  • Experience leading workflow and project budgets
  • Experience communicating with partners at all levels
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Experience in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution
  • Ability to work with various fabrics, fibers, foams, and furs
Good to have:
  • Experience using SAP
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience working with a unionized cast
  • Proficient or fluent in Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Spanish
  • Advanced degree in Costuming, Textiles, or Apparel-related field

Job Summary:

Through innovative storytelling and collaboration, Disney Live Entertainment crafts, produces, and delivers remarkable and engaging entertainment experiences! The Workroom Manager leads all aspects of a diverse and dedicated cast of highly skilled artisans. This role leads the day-to-day operation of both people and processes with an eye toward teamwork, collaboration, and development.

This position reports to the Area Manager of Costume Production.

This is a Full-Time role.

What You Will Do

  • Facilitate the development and replenishment of Character costumes.

  • Handle confidential information pertaining to employees and intellectual property.

  • Partner with multiple collaborators to maintain product quality and designs.

  • Partner with Costumers, Buyers, Designers, & vendors.

  • Creating estimates for manufacturing costumes.

  • Forecast and order needed supplies, tools, and notions.

  • Responsible for ensuring that cast issues are addressed in a timely manner.

  • Ensure that manufacturing is on time, on budget, and of the utmost quality.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 3+ years experience in garment construction, alterations, and patterning techniques

  • 3+ years experience leading garment/costume fittings

  • 1+ years experience in leadership

  • Experience with performers in various stages of dress/undress

  • Experience with sewing terms, fabric types, and garment notions

  • Experience leading workflow and project budgets

  • Experience communicating (both verbal and written) with a variety of partners at all levels

  • Experience working in a team environment where collaboration is key

  • Experience in planning, problem-solving, conflict resolution, influencing, and negotiating

  • Experience with continuous improvement process

  • Experience in the theater, film, apparel, or manufacturing industry

  • Ability to work around all types of fabrics, fibers, foams, and synthetic furs

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using SAP

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience working with a unionized cast

  • Proficient or fluent in Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, or Spanish

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required

  • Advanced degree in a Costuming, Textiles, or Apparel-related field is preferred
