Senior Environment Artist

The Senior Environment Artist will report to the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director, focusing on creating stunning, beautiful, and immersive environments. This role involves responsibility for playable environments from conception to final polish, utilizing skills in modeling, texturing, lighting, optimization, and level design to drive the game's visual direction forward.

Your focus will be to create stunning, beautiful, and immersive environments. You will be responsible for playable environments from conception to final polish, while utilizing your skills that include modelling, texturing, lighting, optimization, and level design.</p><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">About Us</h3><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">Our mission at Riyo Games is to craft retro-infused JRPGs that awaken cherished childhood memories. We’re growing the studio by assembling a dream team of talent from across the globe. Join us on this epic quest to make fun, narrative-rich games in an inclusive, supportive, and fun studio environment!</p><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed">You’ll be working on Threads of Time, a 2.5D JRPG inspired by Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy where you get to travel from the pre-historic era to the end of time!</p><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Become part of a veteran team that includes legendary developers who led iconic titles such as <em>Xenoblade Chronicles, Legend of Mana,</em> and more</li><li class="leading-relaxed">4 weeks paid vacation (1 week of which is taken in late December)</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Collaborative environment with opportunities to contribute to the game’s creative design and take ownership of features</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Competitive salary and benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Opportunities to help you strengthen your skills or learn something new</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A workplace that appreciates and values diversity and inclusivity</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Responsibilities</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">Work closely with the Lead Environment Artist and Art Director</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Work with both 3D and 2D assets to create efficient, production-ready stylized 3D environments from block out to polished states</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Modeling and texturing assets from concept art and descriptions</li><li class="leading-relaxed">UV unwrapping, texture mapping</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Importing models into Unreal, setting them up correctly, and creating applicable materials</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Working closely with the rest of the art team to maintain a consistent and high-quality art style</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Working closely with game designers to create and adjust environments based on gameplay needs</li></ul><h3 class="text-xl md:text-2xl font-bold mt-8 mb-3 text-gray-800">Qualifications</h3><ul class="list-disc list-inside my-5 pl-5 space-y-2 text-gray-700"><li class="leading-relaxed">A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in 3D modeling and texturing</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A shipped game title</li><li class="leading-relaxed">A love of JRPGs</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Highly proficient in industry-standard tools like Maya, Blender, Photoshop</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Expert knowledge of game environment development processes such as low poly modeling, diffuse texturing, modular construction and organization, lighting/post-process techniques, etc</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Good sense of asset organization and adherence to naming conventions</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Foundational art knowledge of colour theory, composition, shape language, and 2D painting/drawing skills</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Comfortable with ambiguity and able to drive towards clarity to deliver work on time</li><li class="leading-relaxed">Able to give and receive constructive feedback</li></ul><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed"><strong>Salary:</strong> $70,000 - $90,000 CAD</p><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed"><strong>Please note that although this is a full-time remote position, applicants must reside in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, or British Columbia, or be willing to relocate.</strong></p><p class="my-4 text-gray-700 leading-relaxed"><em>Maybe you think that your experience is not where it should be?
