Well is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their mission of transforming healthcare. The role involves developing the technology platform for their consumer health engagement platform, integrating services like concierge, behavioral health, telemedicine, care management, and wellness. The engineer will collaborate with backend, frontend, data scientists, and product managers to design and implement product features. Responsibilities include owning workstreams, contributing to architectural decisions, building internal applications, ensuring operational excellence through code reviews and quality assurance, and maintaining system security in line with HIPAA guidelines. The ideal candidate is technically strong, a thought leader in Node.js, React, and Typescript, with experience in microservices and cloud platforms.

Position Title: Senior Software Engineer Reporting To: &nbsp;Engineering Manager Location: Chapel Hill, NC; Minneapolis, MN; Boston, MA (Newton Office); New York, NY Compensation: Senior Software Engineer 4 ($165,000-$180,000) depending on qualifications&nbsp; Job Summary: Upon joining our team, you’ll help develop the world-class technology platform at the heart of our engagement and behavior change platform. You’ll get to work with a diverse group of backend and frontend (mobile and web) developers, data scientists and product managers to design, implement and govern product features that reach the hands of thousands of users. We expect you will deliver solutions that are holistically correct, efficient, secure and maintainable. Ownership, self-motivation, teamwork, and experience working in a fast-paced agile environment are highly desired. The ideal candidate has experience working with technical teams, is technically strong, and can communicate technical ideas appropriately to different audiences. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring a high level of developer quality and productivity as well as effective collaboration across other teams and projects within engineering and cross-functionally.&nbsp; Key Responsibilities: <ul> <li>Own substantial workstreams, including both new user-facing features and improvements on our existing services ecosystem</li> <li>As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work collaboratively with a team of software professionals, and prioritize high-level work</li> <li>Represent your engineering team in organizational process discussions and projects</li> <li>Collaborate with a team of mobile, backend and data science practitioners as well as product and delivery managers to create and deliver a seamless, tailored experience for our users</li> <li>Contribute substantially to platform architectural decisions and enhance our team’s ability to make correct decisions that stand the test of time</li> <li>Help build and maintain internal administrative applications that support core functioning of our technology platform</li> <li>Help us achieve operational excellence in the software development by participating in and leading code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoring</li> <li>Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul> <li>Minimum of 6 years of software development experience</li> <li>Thought leader in principled delivery of software utilizing Node.js, React, Typescript - ideally with a broad area of interest spanning other similar/promising programming languages</li> <li>Proven grasp of engineering principles, a variety of common tools, patterns, algorithms/libraries and use cases, key trade-offs and systems design</li> <li>Confident intuition for both micro and macro level decision-making in software development</li> <li>Proven coding capabilities, demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges</li> <li>Willingness to learn new patterns, languages, technologies and methodologies, aligning both with our Engineering culture and continuously evolving technology environment.</li> <li>Good understanding of both microservices and monolith patterns with insight into choices and tradeoffs involved</li> <li>Experience with modern cloud platforms; AWS, GCP, Azure</li> <li>Good understanding of the HTTP stack and REST APIs</li> <li>Good understanding of databases and their tradeoffs</li> <li>Good understanding of the design and implementation of mobile and web infrastructure environments</li> <li>Expert level proficiency in Terraform development</li> <li>Proficiency in database design in DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, or related database systems</li> <li>Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js</li> <li>Knowledge or experience with backend for front end design, especially in support of Android and iOS mobile applications</li> <li>Experience in Healthcare contexts is considered a plus but not a necessity</li> <li>Good understanding of security principles in software development broadly and as specifically applied to consumer-facing applications</li> </ul> Additional Job Information Well is on a mission to redefine the healthcare experience.
