The Editorial Manager, Features at National Geographic is a critical role responsible for assigning and editing ambitious stories across digital and print platforms.  This individual will manage the development, commissioning, and editing of various stories, focusing on reported projects across National Geographic's core content areas. They will leverage data and audience analytics to optimize story reach and impact.  Key responsibilities include managing workflows and team members, nurturing relationships with writers, and assisting leaders in scheduling and planning.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter passionate about exceptional magazine writing and digital storytelling, with deep connections to a diverse range of writers and a keen understanding of the National Geographic brand and mission. The role requires strong editorial judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

They should possess deep connections with a diverse range of extraordinary writers, and an eagerness to dream up new and creative ways to engage and grow National Geographic’s audience.Responsibilities: <ul><li>Manage the development, commissioning, and editing of various stories, with a focus on ambitious reported projects across all of National Geographic’s core content areas.</li><li>Manage related workflows and team members to ensure that projects come together in accordance with deadlines and budgets, while meeting editorial objectives.</li><li>Leverage data and audience analytics to develop and implement strategies for optimizing the reach and impact of our stories across platforms.</li><li>Form, nurture, and maintain relationships with exceptional writers; Develop and deepen connection with new voices and diverse perspectives.</li><li>Assist leaders in scheduling and planning for project publication and completion; supervise administrative tasks, as needed.</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications:<ul><li>Minimum of 5 years of publishing experience that demonstrates increasing editorial responsibility with a large media organization(s), while managing content and teams.</li><li>Outstanding editorial judgement, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills.</li><li>Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, strong knowledge of the National Geographic brand and mission, and demonstrated expertise in related core topic areas.</li><li>Ability to take overall responsibility for concept and content, as well as manage creative relationships.</li><li>Keen understanding of industry goals, varied approaches to storytelling, and ability to manage multiple projects at once, on deadline.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal supervision, problem solve creatively, and exercise independent judgment.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Ability to manage and grow a related team while working collaboratively in highly matrixed conditions with colleagues outside editorial, including communications and marketing, and business support (sales, promotion, and development).</li><li>Proven track record in growing digital audiences and expanding brand reach.</li><li>Curiosity about the planet and our place within it and the ability to grasp new subject matter quickly.</li><li>Understanding of the editorial process from conception to completion, and demonstrated ability to resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems.</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, Editorial CMS (K4/InCopy), digital media platforms; knowledge of AirTable is a plus.</li></ul>Required Education:<ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree</li></ul> The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C. is $113,800.00 to $152,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.  Job Title: Audio Technician Duration: 2 years Location: San Diego, CA (on-call/as-needed position) Summary Job Description Overview We are looking for a creative and talented Audio technician. As an audio technician, you will work across all types of audio for video content and may cover productions inside studios or outside on location. The work demands high-level technical and creative skills to follow instructions that ensure the desired production audio is achieved. This is not full-time employment. It is an on-call/as-needed position through our staffing agency to support our video production projects. Job Duties <ul><li>Collaborate with the production team to create captivating audio arrangements for various studio and locational shoots.</li><li>Work with other designers, editors, producers, and clients to comprehend the project goals and expectations</li><li>Work with director to plan all aspects of audio capture</li><li>Give realistic, creative input and guidance to scene preparation</li><li>Excellent theoretical knowledge of mic’ing and audio capture technics</li><li>Communicate with directors and other designers to determine the best way to capture the audio for the project</li><li>Knowledge of audio equipment, problem-solving, teamwork.</li><li>Must be willing to assist with cameras, lighting and rigging equipment for field and studio productions</li><li>Make sure that the multimedia content follows the quality standards and guidelines of the company and the clients</li><li>Support with multimedia production, including setting up, maintaining and fixing the audio equipment</li><li>Solve technical or practical problems</li><li>Stay informed on modern technology and current industry trends to ensure you use the most updated methods to do the job</li><li>Edit footage as needed </li></ul>
Qualifications <ul><li>At least 3 years of experience in lead audio for video technician or a related role</li><li>Skillful in using various audio system, such as Yamaha, Shure, etc.</li><li>Creative and artistic skills, with a good sense of aesthetics and details</li><li>Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team and with clients</li><li>Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines</li><li>Strong technical skills for troubleshooting equipment issues</li><li>A strong attention to detail</li><li>Flexible schedule to work nights and weekends if required</li><li>Must be able to lift 50lbs </li></ul>
Education Requirement <ul><li>Associate degree in audio, film, media, or equivalent field experience</li><li>Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film is preferred </li></ul>
