Dreamscape Learn (DSL) is a collaborative venture between Dreamscape Immersive and Arizona State University, merging the most advanced experiential pedagogy with the entertainment industry’s best cinematic storytelling to deliver unique virtual reality (VR) and 2D labs and full course experiences which are demonstrably efficacious, readily scalable and emotionally engaging. These VR labs combine the emotional power of Hollywood storytelling, the visceral excitement of theme park rides, and an extraordinary mix of full body tracking and interactivity to create stories and worlds that push the limits of what is possible in virtual reality.


We’re seeking a creative, self-motivated, and collaborative 3D Artist - VR. This opportunity could be an ideal fit if you possess a strong passion for creating and delivering cutting-edge educational products and solutions, encompassing virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Under general direction, the 3D Artist - VR will take on a variety of tasks, both independently and in collaboration with other artists, game developers, project leads, and other stakeholders, using emerging technology tools and artificial intelligence to create new story-driven experiences. This individual will work on a team to model and texture game assets (objects and/or characters), and to integrate them into the game engine.


This position may occasionally be required to travel to Los Angeles up to 5 days per week for comprehensive training facilitated by the expert LA Dreamscape Learn team. These business trips will be at ASU's expense subject to travel policies and procedures found here.


Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with others to come up with creative solutions, identify constraints, and to provide feasibility recommendations.
  • Suggest and create game assets that engage and captivate users.
  • Work in a fast and iterative manner on artistic concepts.
  • Collaborate closely with the team to provide feedback on existing assets and suggestions for new ones.
  • Model and texture game assets (objects and/or characters), and to integrate them into the game engine.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Digital Art, Game Art & Design, or a related field, and 1 year of experience in professional game development or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience using Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Experience in 3D modeling and texturing skills using Maya, Substance Painter, Blender, etc.
  • Experience in VR development.
  • Experience in Texturing and Material Creation: Skilled in creating high-quality textures and materials using Substance Painter, Substance Designer, or Photoshop, with an understanding of UV mapping and texture baking.
  • Experience in basic scripting skills (e.g. C#, Python, MELscript etc).
  • Experience or familiarity coding or integrating software in game engines, with visual scripting tools, or web development with HTML, CSS, C#.
  • Experience with importing rigged and animated characters into a game engine environment
  • Experience with version control software such as Perforce, Plastic, SVN, Git, Bit Bucket.
  • Experience with Project Management Tools such as Jira, Shotgun, Trello, etc.
  • Experience with animation and lighting.
  • Experience building educational content.
  • Ability to adapt to changing creative direction.

Salary Range

$45,000 - $65,000 per year; DOE

Working Environment

The work location is Tempe Campus.


Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.


EdPlus at ASU supports flexible work options, ranging from alternate work schedules to hybrid remote work schedules, subject to approvals per ASU policy. (This is not a fully remote position.)
