Job Description

As a 3D Gameplay Animator at Ubisoft Montpellier, you'll collaborate with GPP and GD teams to create and refine AI animations, focusing on movement and combat. You'll work closely with the Animation Director, Game Designers, and Programmers to ensure animations align with gameplay objectives. Proficiency in animation software like Kino and experience with MoCap animation editing are essential. Responsibilities include adjusting MoCap animations, playtesting, enriching animation kits, and creating prototypes to facilitate discussions. You'll contribute to achieving the game's artistic signature, working within technical constraints and utilizing project management tools.
Must have:
  • MoCap animation editing expertise
  • Strong knowledge of graphic tools
  • Experience in 3D animation for video games
  • Understanding of animation principles and real-time systems
Good to have:
  • Console/high-end PC development experience
  • Knowledge of motion capture and real-time animation workflows
  • Experience with AAA or similar projects

Job Description

As part of a team of developers based in Montpellier and co-developing with Paris, you will be responsible for integrating and fine-tuning animations to provide players with the most immersive gaming experience possible.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our GPP and GD teams to create and refine AI animations, including movement and combat-related animations.
  • Communicate with the Animation Director, Game Designers, and Programmers to understand quality objectives and gameplay intentions.
  • Master animation software such as Kino and be comfortable adjusting MoCap animations.
  • Playtest the game to identify potential animation needs.
  • Understand and enrich animation kits.
  • Quickly create basic prototypes to facilitate discussions related to animations and gameplay (Anim Tree).
  • Work closely with the animation team and developers to achieve the desired artistic signature in the game.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Expertise in MoCap animation editing.
  • Strong knowledge of graphic tools.
  • Ability to work within the technical constraints of platforms and engines.
  • Efficient use of project and data management tools.

  • Proven experience in 3D animation, with completed projects in the video game industry.
  • Deep understanding of animation principles and real-time systems.
  • Familiarity with the constraints and capabilities of animation technologies.
  • Strong interest in technical animation solutions and the ability to innovate in complex environments.

  • Ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
  • Adaptability to quality and time constraints.

Additional Assets

  • Experience in development for console and/or high-end PC.
  • Knowledge of motion capture and real-time animation workflows.
  • Participation in high-quality (AAA or similar) projects.
