Job Description

This Abuse Analyst role at Google's Trust & Safety team involves globally collaborating with engineers and product managers to address online safety challenges and combat abuse and fraud at scale. Responsibilities include analyzing trends, identifying new signals for enforcement solutions, developing anti-abuse protections, building dashboards to track abuse levels, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The role requires expertise in data analysis, database management (SQL, Python, etc.), and ideally experience with messaging (xMS/RCS) or SIM/phone number fraud. You'll work to promote trust in Google and ensure the highest levels of user safety, leveraging your problem-solving and communication skills to influence across various levels.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating statistics, and drawing insights from data.
  • Experience with data analysis and database management (e.g., SQL, Python, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience working on signal development, data analysis, cyber security, or anti-abuse.
  • Experience with fraud/abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security and threat analysis in the context of internet, telephony, or communication-related products.
  • Experience with one or more languages: SQL, Python, Golang, including knowledge in Messaging (xMS/RCS) or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to deliver findings to cross-functional partners, and the ability to influence cross-functionally at various levels.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in a fluid environment.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $139,000-$207,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Analyze trends, conduct data analysis, and identify new signals to develop solutions for scaled enforcement.
  • Develop an understanding of abuse in messaging, current cross-product workflows, and available intelligence.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and build anti-abuse protections leveraging reputation at all levels (phone number, user, IP etc.), and advise on counter-abuse strategies. Also includes productionizing Machine Learning (ML) models.
  • Build dashboards to track abuse levels, perform quality checks to measure system/model reliability, and resolve false positives. Create awareness of threats and educate clients to reduce the problem upstream.
  • Lead projects to prevent Google's infrastructure from being abuse, harm or fraud, resulting in losses to users or Google. Collaborate cross-functionally to develop requirements based on data analysis and product understanding.
