Job Description

The Health AI team at Apple is seeking a mission-driven, hands-on technical leader to spearhead new strategic initiatives in health and artificial intelligence. This 'player-coach' will guide the technical vision for applied research, lead engineering execution, and build a world-class organization. Responsibilities include leveraging deep technical expertise to push beyond state-of-the-art methodologies, guiding the full lifecycle of applied research from concept to production using novel AI/ML techniques, and partnering with product, design, and other teams to translate research into next-gen Apple health products while upholding privacy standards. The role also involves hiring, growing, and mentoring a world-class engineering organization, fostering continuous improvement, and cultivating collaboration.

  • Demonstrated ability to form senior partnerships and influence technical direction across a large, cross-functional organization.
  • Strong intuition for turning ambiguous research questions into concrete technical roadmaps and product opportunities.
  • MS/PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to recruit, hire, and grow people who are technically great and collaborative.

The Health AI team is at the forefront of machine learning and health science at Apple. We are a close-knit team of highly accomplished, deeply technical research scientists and machine learning engineers passionate about delivering innovative technologies that benefit our users. We are seeking a mission-driven, hands-on technical leader to spearhead new strategic initiatives at the intersection of health and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate is a "player-coach" who will guide the technical vision for applied research, lead the engineering execution, and build a world-class organization to deliver on these initiatives.

In this role, you will leverage your deep technical expertise to push beyond state-of-the-art methodologies. You will be responsible for guiding the full lifecycle of applied research—from concept to production—by applying novel AI/ML techniques to unique challenges in the health space. You will partner closely with product, design, and other research and engineering teams to translate cutting-edge research into the next generation of Apple health products, all while upholding the privacy standards for which Apple is known. As a leader, you will be responsible for hiring, growing, and mentoring a world-class engineering organization, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and cultivating collaboration with peers across AIML and Apple.

  • Define and drive a long-term technical strategy and applied research roadmap.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $305,000 and $487,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You’ll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses — including tuition.
