Job Description

Barnstorm is a visual effects studio seeking a Senior Animator to create realistic and dynamic animations for various projects. The animator will be responsible for animating human characters and creatures using Maya, collaborating with supervisors and directors, and ensuring high-quality animation. The role involves applying knowledge of body mechanics and movement, adapting animation styles, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-end VFX or animation studio, proficiency in Maya, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. This position requires taking direction, iterating quickly, and having a keen eye for detail.
Must have:
  • 1-2+ years of experience as an Animator in VFX or animation studio.
  • Expert proficiency in Maya and a strong understanding of animation principles.
  • Experience animating bipedal, quadrupedal characters and complex rigs.
  • Strong knowledge of motion capture data and refining it for production.
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with Flow (formerly Shotgrid/Shotgun).
  • Experience collaborating with rigging teams.
  • Strong artistic and technical problem-solving skills.

Who You Are

You are a highly experienced Senior Animator with a passion for breathing life into characters and creatures. You excel at creating realistic and dynamic animations for feature films, episodic television, and commercials. You have a strong understanding of anatomy, weight, and movement and can bring performances to life with nuance and believability. You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with animation supervisors and directors to achieve the highest level of quality.

What You’ll Do


  • Animate realistic human characters, creatures, and other assets in Maya.
  • Work closely with Animation Supervisors and Directors to execute the creative vision of a project.
  • Apply a deep understanding of body mechanics, weight, and movement to produce high-quality animation.
  • Adapt animation styles to match the tone and visual style of the production.
  • Work on-the-box / on shots; troubleshooting and providing solutions.

What You Bring

  • 1-2+ years of experience as an Animator in a high-end VFX or animation studio.
  • Expert proficiency in Maya and a strong understanding of animation principles.
  • Experience animating both bipedal and quadrupedal characters, as well as complex creature rigs.
  • Strong knowledge of motion capture data and how to refine it for production use.
  • Ability to animate physically accurate and weighty performances while maintaining artistic expression.
  • Familiarity with Flow (formerly Shotgrid/Shotgun).
  • Experience collaborating with rigging teams to refine animation controls and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Strong artistic and technical problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A positive and collaborative attitude, with the ability to take direction and iterate quickly.
