As an Applications Test Engineer, you will create and follow test methods to validate products and evaluate competitive units, with a focus on robotic mowers. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing test methods, conducting performance and reliability tests, analyzing field data, creating test logs, developing long-term test plans, assessing product designs, benchmarking competitive products, collaborating with teams for technical insights, preparing test locations, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment. You will need to travel up to 50% of the time, including trips within America, China, and Europe. The role requires strong communication skills and a mix of hands-on data acquisition, test planning, and data analysis.

Position Summary:

Looking for a thorough and detail-oriented Applications Test Engineer to create and follow test methods to validate our products and evaluate competitive units. The position will be focused on robotic mowers and will be a mix of hands-on data acquisition, test planning, and data analysis. Strong communication skills between the test department and engineering department are critical. Background in lawn and garden, robotics, outdoor power equipment or powersports is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·       Develop expertise in turf grasses and growing climates to optimize robotic mower performance.

·       Design and implement test methods, instruments and .

·       Conduct performance, reliability, and R&D testing to evaluate product quality and resolve manufacturing concerns.

·       Gather and analyze field data on autonomous robotics to improve functionality and efficiency.

·       Create and maintain test logs using MS Excel, mobile applications, and other platforms.

·       Develop  long-term test plans and product evaluation protocols to support ongoing development.

·       Assess product designs for quality, durability, and user experience (UX), providing recommendations for improvement.

·       Benchmark competitive products, analyzing performance comparisons to enhance innovation and positioning.

·       Collaborate with product management and sales teams, offering technical insights for strategy and customer support.

·       Secure and prepare test locations for evaluations and field research.

·       Set up and prepare test units for field trials, ensuring proper configuration before deployment.

·       Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics, addressing technical issues during testing procedures.

·       Repair and maintain test equipment as needed to support continuous testing operations.

·       Travel up to 50%, including trips around America as well as to China and Europe, for testing and evaluation purposes.

·       Execute additional duties as assigned, contributing to broader research and development initiatives.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Self-started with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to work overtime, off shifts and weekends as needed is required to support functional leads.
  • A demonstrated willingness for continual learning and skill development is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to neatly translate thoughts into written paragraphs and articulate equipment operation and failures
  • Demonstrated effective teamwork and interpersonal skills are required, including willingness to receive direction from either supervisor or other team members to support department goals
  • Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to: frequent/constant walking and standing, occasional twisting, stooping, kneeling, lifting, handling, pushing, and pulling
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis.
  • Experience in the Outdoor Power Equipment industry or Powersports industry.
  • Programming knowledge is a plus

Required Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar Degree.
