Job Description

The Applied Researcher will be part of the Product Knowledge team at eBay and will work on diverse projects such as image quality scoring, automatic taxonomy improvement, and entity resolution. The role involves building machine learning models, contributing to cutting-edge language modeling techniques, and collaborating with the Operations team. The role also includes defining and refining project scopes, seeking scientifically valid solutions, and presenting research work in public forums. Must have:
  • BE/B.Tech with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience in production-grade coding in Python or Java
  • Experience in Big Data processing frameworks
Good to have:
  • 1 or more related publications in quality conferences or journals
  • Open source tool building/commits to popular threads
  • Experience on Language models and KG building

Who Are We?

​The Product Knowledge team is at the epicenter of eBay’s Tech-driven, Customer-centric overhaul. Our team is entrusted with creating and using eBay’s Product Knowledge - a vast Big Data system which is built up of listings, transactions, products, knowledge graphs, and more. Our team has a mix of highly proficient people from multiple fields such as Machine Learning, Data Science, Software Engineering, Operations, and Big Data Analytics. What Will You Do?

​We are looking for stellar Applied Researchers to join us and help improve, automate, and scale our data-heavy processes. Our Applied Researchers tackle such diverse and exciting projects as on Image Quality scoring; Automatic Taxonomy Improvement; Entity Resolution of rich, hierarchical Entities; and Conflict Resolution between different representations of the same Entity. Our applied researchers make contributions to cutting edge language modeling  techniques with opportunity for publications and patents. ​Job Responsibilities

  • Help define and refine project scopes, goals, and metrics

  • ​Seek scientifically valid solutions that deliver real value to eBay customers

  • Carefully measure your output and impact in order to learn and improve over time

  • Collaborate with Operations team to ensure the quality of any human-labeled data required

  • ​Build Machine Learning models and data pipelines to deliver insightful yet practical solutions

  • Engage with the eBay Science community promote standard scientific methodologies and processes in your field

  • ​Present key technical and novel research work in public forums and conferences

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BE/B.Tech with 3+ years of relevant Industry experience. ​

  • Post Grad from in Computer Science, Statistics and Mathematics with 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • ​Industrial experience with one or more of the following: classification, regression, NLP, clustering, Deep Learning / Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, or related

  • Experience in Production-grade coding in a high-level language such as Python or Java

  • ​Experience in Big Data processing frameworks, e.g. Hadoop, SQL, Spark

  • ​Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills

Additional Qualifications

  • ​1 or more related publications in quality conferences or journals

  • Open source tool building/commits to popular threads.

  • Experience on Language models and KG building
