As an Art Production Manager (Lighting) at Prismatic Studios, you'll guide the creation and refinement of internal lighting tools and workflows. Collaborate with lighting artists, technical teams, and production leads to analyze and enhance lighting solutions. Provide expert feedback at project milestones, evaluating tools and processes from a lighting artist's perspective to improve visual quality and efficiency. Your understanding of lighting techniques, engine rendering, and market tools is crucial in shaping the studio's pipelines. Conduct competitor analysis and identify opportunities for innovation to stay ahead of industry trends. Responsibilities include developing and refining tools, providing expert feedback, conducting competitor analysis, overseeing lighting implementation in game engines, bridging communication between teams, tracking production progress, staying updated on industry trends, and developing product documentation.

Job Description

As an Art Production Manager for Lighting at Prismatic Studios, you will guide the creation and refinement of internal lighting tools and workflows, ensuring they meet both artistic and technical requirements. In this role, you will work closely with lighting artists, technical teams, and production leads to analyse and enhance lighting solutions used throughout the studio. You will provide expert feedback at key project milestones, evaluating tools and processes from a lighting artist’s perspective to drive visual quality and efficiency.

Your deep understanding of lighting techniques, engine rendering workflows, and market tools will be essential in shaping the studio’s lighting pipelines. By performing competitor analysis and identifying opportunities for innovation, you will help the team stay ahead of industry trends and deliver visually stunning and performant scenes.

The position is a full-time contract role. This is an onsite position for a studio in Auckland, New Zealand. Please note, that you must have the right to work in New Zealand to be eligible for this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teams to develop and refine internal lighting tools and workflows, ensuring they meet the technical and artistic needs of lighting artists.
  • Provide expert feedback at the end of each milestone, evaluating workflows and tools from an artist’s perspective.
  • Conduct competitor and landscape analysis to evaluate existing lighting tools and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee the implementation of lighting construction and application within game engines, ensuring adherence to best practices and performance benchmarks.
  • Serve as the bridge between art, design, and production teams to ensure seamless communication and alignment on project goals.
  • Regularly track and report on production progress, identifying and mitigating potential bottlenecks or risks.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in game engine lighting.
  • Develop comprehensive product documentation, including requirement specifications, manuals, and other supporting materials.
Job Requirements
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, including participation in at least one game development project.
  • Proven experience in game development with expertise in lighting workflows, global illumination, exposure principles, and GPU operations, including their impact on visual quality and performance optimisation.
  • Strong knowledge of PBR rendering and the role of lighting in both linear and open-world game environments, including experience with shadowing, texture UV mapping, and lighting setups.
  • Proficiency in 3D software and game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity, with a strong grasp of rendering and lighting principles.
  • Solid understanding of game production processes, including applying lighting to enhance game scenes and character visuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise multiple deadlines in a fast-paced production environment, while collaborating with cross-functional teams and providing clear direction and feedback to art teams.
  • Expertise in documentation and prototyping tools such as Word, Excel, Figma, Confluence, and Miro.
  • Good communication skills that support an open and enthusiastic working environment.
    Self-driven with a strong sense of quality and an eye for detail.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English.
  • Excellent time management skills.
Additional Valuable Skills
  • Hands-on experience with mainstream engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) or 3D modelling tools like Maya or 3ds Max.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, TAPD, ClickUp).
  • Experience in cross-border or cross-time-zone collaboration.
  • Background in software development projects.
