Job Description

This internship provides technical support for Disney's Assistive Technology services at Walt Disney World Resort. Responsibilities include learning the operation of assistive technologies (Assistive Listening, Handheld Captioning, etc.), supporting handheld devices, investigating and fixing infrastructure issues, collaborating with engineering teams on new installations and repairs, auditing services for accuracy, maintaining guest information, and assisting with special projects. The intern will interact with various departments to ensure a positive guest experience. The internship runs from June to December 2025 and requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and problem-solving skills. Preferred qualifications include backstage experience at Walt Disney World, AV technical services experience, and experience supporting individuals with disabilities.

What You Will Do

This position provides technical support for the implementation and sustainment of Disney developed Assistive Technology services for Guests with Disabilities at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Assistive Technology services are Assistive Listening, Handheld Captioning, Video Captioning, Reflective Captioning, and Audio Description Partner and interact with various departments to provide an outstanding experience for Guests with disabilities using the Assistive Technology services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning the technical theory of operation of the Assistive Technology services offered at the Walt Disney World Resort
  • Supporting a fleet of PDA-style handheld devices that provide the Assistive Technology services
  • Investigating and fixing in-park infrastructure
  • Working with Design and Engineering and Engineering Services with new installations and repairs
  • Auditing Assistive Technology Services for content accuracy
  • Maintaining accurate guest and cast information materials
  • Assisting with special projects including audits, photo documentation, and the creation of maintenance materials
  • Supporting in-park tours and demonstrations

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and implement new knowledge
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to problem address and solve
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Comfortable functioning in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Backstage experience, especially throughout attractions, at the Walt Disney World Resort
  • Experience working in theater, music or show production environment
  • AV technical services experiences
  • Previous experience supporting services or technology for persons with disabilities
  • Experience with CAD software, Issue Tracker and Wikis

Education

  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related major
  • Junior or Senior status by arrival date
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree at an accredited 4-year college or university

Preferred Education

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Note: Please, no rounding) as shown on a transcript.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.  
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants:  You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.   

Additional Information

  • Be compliant with appearance guidelines
  • Fully available from Monday through Friday with occasional weekends or holidays pending project need, up to 40 hours each week, early mornings or late nights are a possibility, bulk of work time will be during traditional 8am-5pm
  • Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work

The pay rate for this role in Orlando FL is $30 for undergraduate student per hour and $35 for graduate student per hour.
