Tesla is seeking a dynamic and creative Environmental Manager to join the Global Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team and lead compliance regarding Environmental programs and Hazardous Materials for Gigafactory Berlin construction and manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager Environment, Health & Safety at the Gigafactory, he or she will be responsible for ensuring Tesla operates in permit and legal compliance with regulations during all phases of site operations (construction, start-up, and full production). This position will be the main environmental regulatory point of contact for the facility regarding the specialist topics.
This position will be based in Berlin, Germany and will require some limited international travel (up to 10% of the time) to Tesla’s North American and EMEA operations. This position is a planned for ~1,5 contract with the ability for extension.
- Ensure Tesla operates in compliance with all applicable national, regional, and local environmental laws, permits and regulations
- Leading a team of Environmental Specialists (Waste, Water, Emissions, and representatives including Hazardous Materials
- Lead, develop, mentor and coach Environmental team members based on data driven assessments and Stakeholder input
- Establish, track, communicate and develop plans to achieve Environmental performance goals.
- Lead Environmental permitting efforts
- Prepare all required environmental compliance and permit related reports for emissions
- Steer and perform site inspections to verify Environmental compliance
- Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental data to assess risk and evaluate permit and legal compliance in cooperation with the EHS compliance team and shop representatives
- Drive and steer preventive and corrective actions
- Monitor permit and legal compliance regarding related specialist topics
- Interface and contact for regulatory authorities and oversee regulatory inspections
- Identify, analyze and track new and emerging environmental regulations and implement programs and procedures to maintain legal and permit compliance
- Prepare, conduct and follow up on authority approvals and inspections (e.g. IED inspection)
- Interact with relevant stakeholders e.g. management, shop leads, planners to advise in time on changes and new plans as well as collaboration with other EHS representatives
- Support in environmental permitting efforts
- Review and provide feedback on new processes and equipment design and validate its compliance with environmental regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or a closely related EHS discipline; alternatively, the equivalent in experience; Master’s Degree is a plus
- Evidence of exceptional leadership skills
- Qualified and certified Environmental Representative / Officer (e.g. Emission control, Waste Management, Major Environmental Incident Officer) is a plus
- 5+ years of experience managing environmental compliance programs and leading teams
- Strong technical knowledge and skills implementing and complying with the following national regulations at a large manufacturing facility
- Fluent in German and English (verbal and written)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
