Job Description

Shield AI is seeking a skilled Jira/Confluence Administrator to take full ownership of our Atlassian environment, spanning both self-hosted and Atlassian Cloud deployments. This individual will be a key part of the Enterprise Operations team, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and usability of our Atlassian stack while supporting team workflows, service tickets, and broader application delivery objectives. This hands-on role blends system administration, user support, and process automation, accelerating mission-critical engineering workflows.
Must have:
  • Support and maintain self-hosted and Atlassian Cloud environments.
  • Manage user permissions, projects, workflows, schemes, plugins, and integrations.
  • Administer Confluence spaces, templates, and macros.
  • Ensure system reliability, uptime, performance, and backups.
  • Support transition to or coexistence with Atlassian Cloud, including SSO integration.
  • Automate common processes and reporting.
  • Implement best practices for issue tracking, agile boards, SLAs, and project templates.
  • Integrate Jira/Confluence with other tools like Azure Dev Ops.
  • Administer and customize apps like ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira, Insight/Assets.
  • Build lightweight automations and integrations using REST API, Groovy, and automation rules.
  • Respond to service desk tickets related to Jira/Confluence.
  • Provide user training, documentation, and technical support.
  • Work closely with stakeholders from Engineering, Security, and Operations.
  • Contribute to internal projects such as access automation or policy implementations.
  • Assist with other tools and platforms under Enterprise Operations scope.
Good to have:
  • Experience within a DoD, defense, or government contractor environment.
  • Atlassian Certifications (ACP-100, ACP-120, ACP-200).
  • Experience supporting both Atlassian Server/Data Center and Cloud.
  • Familiarity with Agile/DevOps toolchains (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitLab, CI/CD systems).
  • Familiarity with SSO/IDP integration (e.g., Okta, Azure AD).
  • Experience with ScriptRunner, REST API, or automation tools.

Your expertise will help accelerate Shield AI’s mission-critical engineering workflows.

What you'll do:

  • Jira/Confluence Administration
  • Support and maintain both self-hosted and Atlassian Cloud (SaaS) environments as needed, with migration readiness and hybrid expertise.
  • Manage user permissions, projects, workflows, schemes, plugins, and integrations.
  • Administer Confluence spaces, templates, and macros; manage permissions and integrations with Jira and external systems.
  • Ensure system reliability, uptime, performance, and backups.
  • Support the transition to or coexistence with Atlassian Cloud, including user provisioning, SSO integration (Okta, Azure AD), and cloud-based app support.
  • Process Automation & Tooling:
  • Support team initiatives by automating common processes and reporting.
  • Implement best practices for issue tracking, agile boards, SLAs, and project templates.
  • Integrate Jira/Confluence with other tools like Azure Dev Ops.
  • Administer and customize apps like ScriptRunner, Automation for Jira, Insight/Assets, etc.
  • Build lightweight automations and integrations using REST API, Groovy, and automation rules.
  • User & Service Support:
  • Respond to service desk tickets related to Jira/Confluence and other supported tools.
  • Provide user training, documentation, and technical support to internal teams.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with stakeholders from Engineering, Security, and Operations.
  • Contribute to internal projects such as access automation, or policy implementations.
  • Assist with other tools and platforms under the Enterprise Operations scope.

Required qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Jira/Confluence Administrator, preferably in a self-hosted environment.
  • Proficiency with Jira project/workflow configurations, custom fields, dashboards, permission schemes.
  • Experience with Linux system administration, scripting (Bash, Python), and application monitoring.
  • Familiarity with ITSM or agile workflows.
  • Comfortable supporting users and resolving technical tickets.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills, with a proven record of cross-functional teamwork.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ownership, continuous improvement, and being a reliable, respectful team member.

Preferred qualifications:
