About the Role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join Nature Methods and the Research Cross-Journal Editorial Team in a dual appointment.

The successful candidate for this exciting and dynamic position will work both with Nature Methods and the Cross-Journal team of editors that works closely and flexibly with the Nature Research Journals. The ideal candidate would be a critical thinker with a deep understanding of their subject, with a particular interest in methods development, who is curious and keen to handle manuscripts across a broad area of scientific research. The ideal candidate will also be highly motivated, be able to work well both independently and in teams, and have excellent communication skills. 

This role can be in our New York, Jersey City, Shanghai, or Beijing offices on a hybrid working model.

Role responsibilities: 

At Nature Methods:

• Handle original research papers and work with the team on every aspect of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, Comments, and News & Views.
• Occasionally write Research Highlight and Editorials.
• Engage with the scientific community.

At the Cross-Journal team:

• Work closely with other Chief Editors and Nature Research journal teams.  
• Support editorial processes at Nature Research journals through handling manuscripts, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• May also be involved in commissioning, editing and writing content for journals. 

Experience, Skills, & Qualifications: 

• Research experience to PhD in any basic biology research (or closely related) area, though we are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in computational biology, data science/statistics, ecology/environmental science, and/or chemical biology
• A keen interest in research both within and beyond your specialty. 
• The ability to absorb and understand new areas of research. 
• Excellent literary skills. 
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
• Postdoctoral experience a plus. 
• Previous editorial experience a plus.
• Expertise in any other life science disciplines a plus.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $80,000 | Senior Editor: $95,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
