The Associate Production Director will join the Fable team at Playground Games. The role involves developing project plans, allocating resources, collaborating with QA teams, and managing risks. The director will also regularly update stakeholders, analyze production processes, and ensure transparent reporting. They will also line manage junior team members and promote best practices across the team. The role is based at the Royal Leamington Spa facilities with a hybrid work model, requiring at least three days a week in the studio.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of production experience.
  • Experience producing at least one published title.
  • Strong leadership ability with large teams.
  • Proactive, organized, and excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and works well under pressure.
  • A genuine passion for video games.
Good to have:
  • Experience with open-world RPGs.

Job Details

Playground Games is looking for an Associate Production Director to join our Fable team on a permanent basis.   

About us:  

As a first-party Xbox Game Studio, we are passionate about making genre-defining games that are accessible, beautiful, and, most of all, fun. We are excited to be rebooting the much-loved Fable franchise and are expanding our diverse team to create a new classic in the action RPG genre.   

About the role:  

This is a permanent role based at our state-of-the-art facilities in Royal Leamington Spa. We have a hybrid work model in place with a minimum of 3 days a week in studio. Relocation assistance is available if required.    

What you’ll do:  

  • Develop detailed project plans and schedules, setting milestones and deadlines for the various phases of game development. 
  • Allocate resources, including budget, personnel, and tools, across the project to ensure efficient use. 
  • Collaborate closely with QA teams to set up effective testing processes and ensure quality standards are met. 
  • Identify potential risks early in the project and develop mitigation plans to handle them effectively. Adjust project plans in response to risks or changes in scope, minimising disruptions to the schedule. 
  • Regularly update key stakeholders on the project’s progress, challenges, and needs. Make recommendations and adjustments based on feedback from stakeholders to ensure the game meets business and creative goals. 
  • Analyse and improve production processes to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and increase productivity. 
  • Ensure transparent reporting for both team members and stakeholders to maintain accountability and track progress. 
  • Line manage and mentor more junior members of the Production team while driving production best practices across the team. 

What you’ll bring:  

  • 7+ years of production experience.  
  • Experience producing at least 1 published title through an entire project lifecycle (ideally AAA).  
  • Strong leadership ability with experience driving large multidisciplinary teams.  
  • Proactive, organized, and process-driven with exceptional communication skills.  
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure.  
  • A genuine passion for video games.  
  • Experience with open-world RPGs is a plus.
