Job Description

Tesla's drive unit development team seeks skilled performance modeling engineers to advance power electronics in electric vehicles. The role involves developing, maintaining, and utilizing a parametric performance model in MATLAB/Simulink for trade-off studies, multi-objective optimization, and communication of performance expectations. Collaboration with mechanical, thermal, PCBA, and firmware engineering teams is crucial to define traction inverter performance limits. Responsibilities include implementing power stage loss and thermal models, ensuring repeatable results for vehicle architecture initiatives, and enhancing model capabilities. The position offers exposure to cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced environment.

Must have:

M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
Power converter modeling in MATLAB/Simulink
Experience with custom software development and maintenance
Understanding of switching waveforms, semiconductor losses, and thermal behavior
Experience with Git/Github

Good to have:

Knowledge of electric machines, thermal design, and mechanical design

What You’ll Do

Implement (MATLAB/Simulink) power stage loss and thermal models for traction inverter applications.
Leverage the traction inverter model to produce repeatable and dependable results to drive vehicle architecture initiatives and roadmaps.
Maintain and grow organically the capabilities of the model - software architecture.
Collaborate with mechanical, thermal, PCBA, and firmware engineering teams to identify the limits of traction inverter performance.

What You’ll Bring

M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Experience with power converter modelling in MATLAB/Simulink.
Experience working with, developing, and maintaining custom software source code.
Good understanding of switching waveforms, semiconductor losses and thermal behavior of power components.
Experience with Git/Github.
