Job Description

Tesla's drive unit development team seeks skilled test engineers to develop, debug, execute, and optimize reliability tests for drive units and subcomponents. The role involves creating comprehensive validation test programs, leading testing efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams on design reviews and DFMEAs, analyzing test data to root cause failures, and presenting findings to stakeholders. Engineers will work on improving current and designing next-generation drive units, pushing designs to their physical limits. The position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include developing and implementing test programs, organizing and leading testing, participating in design reviews, conducting data analysis, and documenting findings. Good To Have:
  • Hands-on experience in automotive component testing
  • Knowledge of motor, geartrain, and inverter design
  • Experience with data logging/databases, instrumentation, 3D CAD
Must Have:
  • M.Sc. in relevant Engineering field or equivalent experience
  • Experience with programming languages (Python/MATLAB)
  • Aptitude for understanding complex systems
  • Proven ability to perform under pressure
  • Excellent project management skills

Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated test engineers to develop, debug, execute, and optimize reliability tests for all our drive units and subcomponents. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and is looking for engineers (any level) to help drive our designs to the physical limits. What You’ll Do
  • Develop and implement comprehensive validation test programs for drive units and their subcomponents.​

  • Organize and lead testing efforts, track progress, provide updates, and ensure timely completion.​

  • Participate in design reviews and DFMEAs, collaborate with cross-functional teams to create validation test plans and analyze test profiles and results.​

  • Conduct data-driven analysis to root cause failures, collaborate cross-functional teams to drive product improvements.​

  • Document and present findings to stakeholders through detailed test reports and results analysis.

What You’ll Bring
  • M.Sc. in Engineering in a relevant field (e.g., Automotive, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics), or the equivalent in experience, with strong fundamentals and evidence of exceptional ability.​

  • Experience with programming languages, e.g. Python/MATLAB, and other data analysis software.​

  • Aptitude and passion for understanding complex systems and driving product improvements.​

  • Proven ability to perform under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.​

  • Excellent project management skills​

Additional Preferred Skills​

  • Hands-on experience in automotive components/systems testing.​

  • Knowledge of motor, geartrain and inverter design and functionality.​

  • Experience with data logging/databases, instrumentation, 3D CAD software.​

  • Experience creating and executing design validation plans and test methods to validate performance or reliability requirements.
