The Attractions Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all attraction equipment, accessories, and specialty structures on Disney Cruise Line vessels. Reporting to the First Engineer, responsibilities include implementing engineering operations procedures, ensuring proper maintenance and performance monitoring, training and certifying maintenance engineers, conducting inspections, troubleshooting mechanical and electronic systems (PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, audio/video, drive systems, motors), overseeing spare parts quality control, planning annual inspections, communicating operational status to senior engineers, coordinating with operational colleagues and shoreside engineering, maintaining personnel files, and fulfilling emergency duties. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in attraction equipment maintenance on large cruise vessels or theme parks.
Must have:
  • 5+ years experience in attraction equipment maintenance
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electronic systems
  • Safety and emergency duty responsibilities

The Attraction Engineer is responsible the the maintenance and repair of all attraction equipment, accessories and specialty structures. You will report to the First Engineer.

Level: 2.5 stripes Officer

Responsibilities:

  • The Attraction Engineer is responsible for the implementation of the Attractions and Ride Systems engineering operations procedures, maintenance and performance monitoring in line with the Manual and Engineering Documentation.
  • Ensure that all maintenance Engineers are trained and certified to conduct inspections and maintenance in accordance with guidelines.
  • Responsible for proper record taking, keeping, and tracking to ensure that any maintenance is completed and recorded.
  • Responsible for Engineering and Safety preoperational inspections and handover to Entertainment Attractions Operational Colleagues.
  • Conduct required visual inspections of attractions, including track and related machinery, and surrounding area for potentially unsafe conditions and to confirm normal operations
  • Perform necessary troubleshooting of mechanical and electronic systems which might include a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), hydraulics, pneumatics, audio and video systems, drive systems, and DC/AC motors, while coordinating with R&S Engineering as necessary to disposition findings
  • Implement oversight of engineering spare parts quality control in line with requirements for Rides & Attractions
  • Annual Inspection and certification must be planned with shoreside Ride Engineering team.
  • Keep 1st Engineer, Chief Engineer and Chief Electrical Engineer informed of Attractions operational status.
  • Maintain communication with MTO Ride & Attractions Engineer.
  • Coordinate with Entertainment Ride Operational CMs for Engineering aspects
  • Partner with Ride Engineering for planned inspections and maintenance visits, drawing updates, ride critical work order extension, job plan updates and software changes
  • Sees that personnel files for the positions under them in the chain of command are maintained (working with Human Resources)
  • Emergency Duties as specified in the ship’s Assembly Stations and Emergency Functions Plan
  • SMS – uphold the general safety management responsibilities in areas and operations under their control.

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years working in attraction equipment maintenance on a large cruise/passenger vessel or theme park
Enthusiasm about guiding other team members
Fluent written and spoken English

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.

Additional Information:

This is a SHIPBOARD role

You must:
  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
  • Be committed to the position you are applying for at least 2-3 contracts before a transfer or promotion
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency duties and/or associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
  • Be willing and able to uphold the general safety management responsibilities specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
  • Be willing to follow and embrace United States Public Health requirements and guidelines as well as Environmentality requirements and Company practices
  • Be comfortable living in a confined space with strict rules and regulations
  • Adhere to a structured lifestyle, personally and professionally
Your Responsibilities:
  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
  • Complete a pre-employment medical
  • Obtain a criminal background check
***Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination.
