Meta's Reality Labs is seeking a Software Engineer for their Audio Research team to revolutionize AR and VR audio experiences, making virtual sounds indistinguishable from reality. The role involves designing, developing, integrating, optimizing, and debugging real-time audio software for advanced prototypes and user experiences. You will also build tools, platforms, and infrastructure to support research, foster a community of practice by sharing best practices, and collaborate across disciplines to make architectural trade-offs for rapid software delivery. The ideal candidate will write clean code, debug complex issues, and manage project needs efficiently, contributing to a future where people connect in meaningful ways.
Must have:
  • Design, develop, and optimize real-time AR/VR audio software
  • Build tools, platforms, and documentation for research
  • Share software engineering best practices
  • Collaborate across disciplines on architectural trade-offs
  • Develop clean, debuggable code
  • 3+ years C/C++ audio software development
  • 2+ years integrating audio features on hardware
  • Experience in a self-directed environment

In this role you will engage with research scientists and engineers across RL-R to deliver state of the art solutions in the audio domain. Audio Software Engineer Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, integrate, optimize and debug real-time AR and VR audio software for advanced prototypes and user experiences
  • Build tools, platforms, infrastructure and documentation that enable more efficient and effective research
  • Build a community of researchers and developers by sharing software engineering best practices, tips and techniques
  • Collaborate in a team environment across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, making the architectural trade offs required to rapidly deliver software solutions
  • Develop clean readable code, debug complex problems that span systems, understand priorities and fulfill project needs efficiently
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • 3+ years of hands-on C / C++ experience developing audio software systems
  • 2+ years of industry experience integrating audio features on hardware devices
  • Experience operating in a self-directed environment with multiple stakeholders across multiple teams
  • Experience shipping multiple products on large code bases that span a range of platforms and tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience with audio fundamentals, processing pipelines and Digital Signal Processing concepts
  • Previous experience working in the AR/VR space
  • Interest or experience in Audio Machine Learning training and evaluation, including Python, PyTorch, etc
  • Experience with prototyping platforms such as Max/MSP, MATLAB or Audioweaver
  • Successfully driving and executing on research initiatives

$56.25/hour to $173,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
