Job Description

Cause & FX seeks a skilled Casual Camera TD for exciting projects. Responsibilities include deriving accurate camera & object 3D solutions, using 3D software (3DEqualizer, Maya, FTrack, Nuke, Houdini preferred) for camera and object tracking and solving related problems. The role requires understanding anamorphic lenses, ensuring scene continuity, and effective communication. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in live-action VFX for feature films, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Must have:
  • 5+ years VFX experience

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We’ve got exciting projects kicking off and are on the lookout for a skilled and passionate Camera TD to start immediately on a casual, freelance basis! If you love tackling technical challenges and want to be part of a dynamic team, this is your chance to jump in and make an impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: 

  • To derive accurate camera & object 3D solutions adhering to all provided camera & subject specifications (focal length, film back, lens distortion, rolling shutter etc).
  • To use relevant 3D software to work out the co-ordinates and movement of the physical camera and / or objects in a live action shot.
  • To be able to develop solutions for the tracking of 3D cameras and solve problems that may arise.
  • To understand Anamorphic Lenses for the creation of undistorting/re-distorting of plates.
  • To be able to follow direction and take ownership of your tasks.
  • To be able to confidently flag when there are issues and lack of clarity of your tasks informing relevant supervisors and production managers.
  • To be conscious of continuity between scenes/shots when working with other Camera TDs & Layout artists with the same project, sequence, assets etc.
  • To organize your time, collaborate, and effectively communicate with your supervisors and teammates.
  • To be accountable for assigned task targets and be proactive in communication related to the assigned targets.
  • To actively maintain all required documentation including time logging on a daily basis.

Requirements

WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE:

  • Minimum 5+ year of experience in a similar role within the live action visual effects industry for feature films.
  • Experience with 3DEqualizer, Maya, FTrack, Nuke.
  • Proficiency in Houdini is an advantage.
  • A firm grasp of 3D tracking principles and toolsets.
  • A great eye for detail and precision with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to deliver results to a high standard with the aid and direction of the matchmove and layout.
  • The ability to be adaptable and accepting of changes in a production schedule.
  • Awareness of project schedules and capable of delivering work to deadlines.
  • A broad understanding of the overall VFX workflow and needs/requirements of other departments and disciplines.
  • Good communication skills both technically and creatively.
  • A team player who excels in a collaborative environment.
  • In order to meet target deadlines, our Camera TD must have effective time management skills and be able to prioritize their work effectively.
