Job Description

The Collections Manager oversees and directs the organization's credit and collections operations. This role ensures timely collection of outstanding accounts receivable, maintains accurate records, manages collection staff, and develops strategies to reduce delinquencies and bad debt. The position requires strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills to ensure efficient cash flow and compliance with applicable regulations. The manager will also be responsible for developing and implementing policies, monitoring accounts, negotiating payment arrangements, working with other departments, and ensuring compliance with laws. Additionally, the manager will train and mentor the collection team and report KPIs.
Must have:

  • Analyze accounts receivable aging reports.

The position requires strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills to ensure efficient cash flow and compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Oversee and manage the collections department and staff.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to credit and collections to improve efficiency and reduce bad debt.
  • Monitor accounts to identify outstanding debts and initiate appropriate collection actions.
  • Analyze accounts receivable aging reports and prepare collection forecasts and status reports for senior management.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements and settlements with clients as needed.
  • Work closely with the sales, finance, and legal departments to resolve billing disputes or escalate delinquent accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws related to debt collection (e.g., FDCPA).
  • Train and mentor collection team members; conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching for improvement.
  • Recommend accounts for write-off or legal action when necessary.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to collections and credit risk.

 

What you will bring to the team:    

EDUCATION & REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:       

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field (required).
  • 3–5 years of experience in collections or credit management, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of collection laws and regulations.
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities. 

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with [industry-specific tools or platforms, e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks].
  • Certification in credit or collections management (e.g., ACA, IACC).
  • Bilingual abilities depending on the company’s customer base.
