Job Description

This role involves researching and developing custom silicon solutions for Google's direct-to-consumer products. Responsibilities include defining floating-point datapaths adhering to the IEEE 754 standard, implementing integer and floating-point SIMD data paths, collaborating with architecture and software teams on CPU and AI arithmetic algorithms, and participating in discussions on future architectural improvements. The ideal candidate will have experience in floating-point datapath design and mathematical modules, a strong understanding of IEEE 754, and a focus on achieving performance, clock speed, and low power consumption goals.

Must have:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field
3+ years experience in floating-point datapath design
Knowledge of IEEE 754
Experience with SIMD

Good to have:

Master's or PhD degree
Experience minimizing datapath power usage
Knowledge of modern high-performance microprocessor ISAs

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Math, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
3 years of experience in floating point datapath design or mathematical modules.

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Math, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience in design techniques to minimize datapath power usage.
Knowledge of floating point and SIMD Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) used by a modern high performance microprocessor.
Understanding of IEEE 754 datapath implementations including design, verification and physical implementation issues.

Responsibilities

Define floating point datapaths implementing the IEEE 754 standard while achieving performance, clock, and low power goals.
Implement integer Single Instruction/Multiple Data (SIMD) and floating point SIMD data paths focusing on power/performance.
Work with architecture and software teams to define and implement CPU and Artificial Intelligence (AI) arithmetic algorithms with performance, clock, and low power goals.
Participate in discussions around future architectural extensions and improvements in related areas.
