As a Cyber Defense Detection Engineer at Mandiant, you'll enable technology and tools for a Cyber Defense Center (CDC). You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver recommendations for technologies supporting the client's CDC. Responsibilities include maintaining SIEM operational readiness, creating detection content, identifying areas for improvement, and configuring SIEM/related response technologies for effective incident detection and response. You'll identify challenges in customer CDCs, formulate improvement strategies, and advise on technologies used by the CDC, CSIRT, and SOC. Creating and modifying SIEM use cases in various query languages and Sigma format, and engaging with client stakeholders are key aspects of the role.
Must have:
  • 3+ years experience in Engineering/System Admin role
  • 3+ years SIEM configuration and maintenance
  • 3+ years networking experience (TCP/IP, topology)
  • SIEM content engineering (rule creation, correlation)
  • Experience with SIEM query languages (SPL, KQL, etc.)
Good to have:
  • PowerShell and Python scripting
  • Understanding of logging for various platforms
  • Excellent communication and people management skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience working in an Engineering, System Administrator, or a related role.
  • 3 years of experience configuring and maintaining SIEM Technologies.
  • 3 years of experience with networking, including TCP/IP protocols and network topology.
  • 2 years of experience with servers, email alias, email platforms.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with content engineering inside SIEM platforms (e.g., rule creation, advanced correlation searching, etc.).
  • Experience with SPL, KQL, YARA-L, Kusto or similar SIEM query languages, with an understanding of SIEM log flow, aggregation, and forwarding.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell and Python).
  • Understanding of logging for common platforms and devices, including Linux and network equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and people management skills, with the ability to simplify and communicate complex ideas.

About the job

In this role, you will be responsible for enabling the technology and tools required to accomplish daily tasks within a Cyber Defense Center (CDC). You will collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams such as Mandiant Architects, Mandiant Analysts, Client Information Technology (IT) resources, and other business resource owners, to define requirements and deliver recommendations focused on technologies required to support the client's CDC. In addition, you will be responsible for maintaining the operational readiness of client SIEM, creating detection content, identifying areas for improvement, and setting appropriate configurations of the SIEM or related response technologies required for a client's Security Operations Center (SOC) to maintain effective incident detection and response capabilities.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $105,000-$154,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Identify challenges in customer Cyber Defense Centers and formulate strategies for improvement, plan implementation of improvements, and execute/oversee plans to completion.
  • Advise on technologies relied upon by the client CDC, CSIRT, and SOC.
  • Provide expertise for SIEM and other SOC technologies that assist in incident response.
  • Create and modify SIEM use cases written in both technology specific query language and Sigma open signature format.
  • Engage and collaborate with client stakeholders and other groups within customer environment to drive resolution for security issues.
