Job Description

As a Cybersecurity Engineer Intern in Barracuda's XDR SOC Purple Team, you'll assist with daily operations, focusing on service delivery and enhancing SOC efficiency and automation. Responsibilities include monitoring networks for security events, providing operational support for Barracuda XDR security services, developing documentation, supporting the SOAR/Automation Platform, contributing to the Emerging Threats program (tracking global threats and their impact), engaging in threat hunting, and participating in agile projects to improve SOC maturity. You'll also help optimize knowledge bases and processes and assist with customer management. The role requires strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Barracuda's 2025 Internship is reserved for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and does not require work authorization, now or in the future. This role is hybrid based out of Chelmsford, MA and required on site days Tuesday and Wednesday.

We are seeking a motivated and eager-to-learn Cybersecurity Engineer Intern to join our XDR SOC Purple Team. As a Cybersecurity Engineer Intern, you will assist with daily operations, focusing on service delivery and enhancing SOC efficiency and automation. Additionally, you will contribute to the engineering and development of innovative features within the SOC to drive efficiency improvements.
We are looking for a self-starter who is passionate about technology and excited to learn new skills.

What you'll be working on 
  • Assist with daily operation of monitoring networks for security events/incidents to detect active threats, intrusions, and/or compromises, within our SIEM, SOAR, and TIP resources. 
  • Provide operational support for requests with Barracuda XDR’s security services. 
  • Develop and maintain documentation on new processes, tools, technologies, and on-going R&D efforts. 
  • Providing support for the Barracuda XDR SOAR/Automation Platform 
  • Support general inquiries/requests relevant to security concerns and recommendations. 
  • Contribute to the SOC Emerging Threats program. This involves understanding the ever-changing global threat landscape and tracking changes in this area, as well as understanding the direct or indirect impact to the customer base by publishing threat advisories on a regular basis. 
  • Engage in proactive security efforts by conducting threat hunting, attack and defend exercises, threat (malware, vulnerability) research, etc. 
  • Contribute to the advancement of our SOC maturity through participation in our agile projects. 
  • Help drive SOC efficiency by optimizing our knowledge base and associated processes. 
  • Assist with customer management by understanding, identifying, and mitigating issues with customers' security

What you bring to the role  
  • Have completed or currently enrolled in a Cybersecurity degree program, bootcamp, or other related learning. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. 
  • Customer service skills, phone and remote support experience. 
  • Passion and interest in the Cybersecurity field. 
  • Eagerness to learn and advance in security operations. 
  • Experience with basic networking and operating system principles. 
  • Familiar with incident response and analysis of attack vectors such as: Ransomware, Business Email Compromise, Phishing, Botnet, DDoS, SQL Injection, Supply Chain Attacks  
  • Familiar with common SOC tools such as: SIEM, SOAR, Other Log/Packet Analysis applications, EDR, Email Security, Threat Intelligence, Vulnerability Scanner, Sandbox Environments
