Job Description

Google seeks a Data Center Equipment Manufacturing Engineer to support global manufacturing partners during development and production. Responsibilities include evaluating vendors, conducting audits, resolving manufacturing and field test issues, driving process improvements (reducing cycle times and costs), and utilizing PDM systems to manage BoMs, AVLs, and ECN/Os. The ideal candidate will have experience in a heavy industrial environment (Data Center or Automotive), knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC), and Lean Manufacturing practices. This role involves collaboration with various teams and requires proactive influence on product design for improved efficiency and quality. The successful candidate will ensure Google's infrastructure components integrate seamlessly for optimal system performance.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years manufacturing engineering experience in heavy industry (Data Center or Automotive)
  • Experience with IEEE, NEC, NESC standards
  • Lean Manufacturing/5S/8D experience
  • Proficient in Product Data Management (PDM) systems
Good to have:
  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Experience overseeing yield improvements and cycle time reductions
  • Data Center cooling, Electrical, and Serverhall experience
  • Ability to influence product design process

Job Details

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer in a heavy industrial environment, within the Data Center space or Automotive production.
  • Experience with industry standards and codes (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC).
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing/5S/8D practices.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience overseeing yield improvements and cycle time reductions for high volume and high complexity parts.
  • Experience in Data Center cooling, Electrical and Serverhall.
  • Ability to proactively influence the product design process by proposing improvements with associated data.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000-$166,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive manufacturing engineering support to Google's global manufacturing partners during development and production builds.
  • Identify and evaluate agreement manufacturers/vendors to fabricate data center related products and architecture.
  • Conduct manufacturing and process audits and qualify agreement manufacturers/vendors.
  • Resolve manufacturing and field tests by applying skills, Design For Excellence (DFx), escalating design, manufacturing, and product test issues to others within the organization when appropriate. Identify, initiate, and drive process improvements that reduce process cycle times and cost, while maintaining exceptional quality.
  • Utilize Product Data Management (PDM) systems to create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoM), Approved Vendor Lists (AVL), and Engineering Change Notifications/Orders (ECN/O) in support of Google Products.
