Job Description
The Data Center Facilities Technician, Mechanical, plays a crucial role in operating, monitoring, and maintaining the sophisticated mechanical and HVAC systems within Google's data centers. Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various systems (piping, mechanical components), managing water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC and control systems, and responding to abnormal conditions. The technician will also support the integration of new equipment and assist other technicians. A strong understanding of mechanical systems, safety protocols, and data analysis is essential. The role requires physical ability for tasks involving lifting and working at heights and the ability to work non-standard hours.
Must have:
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience
- 5+ years HVAC/Mechanical experience
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Data center system maintenance
- Blueprint/schematic reading
- Problem-solving and root cause analysis
Good to have:
- Data center, hospital, or power plant experience
- Experience maintaining safety systems
- Contractor communication skills
- Experience with water treatment systems

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC, experience in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
- Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
- Experience in maintaining mechanical systems, keeping safety systems reliable, or maintaining building infrastructure.
- Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.
- Ability to analyze data and get to the root cause of problems, helping us prevent future issues.
About the job
The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components).As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.
As a Facilities Technician, you will operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions for our data centers.

- Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and mechanical system components.
- Provide daily assistance to technicians as you read blueprints/schematics/sequence of operations, conduct tours of systems, and assess their working order.
- Manage the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC and control and monitoring systems.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
- Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
