Job Description
The Data Center Technician III role at Google involves deploying and operating new data center infrastructure, troubleshooting complex equipment/infrastructure issues, maintaining data security and integrity, disassembling end-of-life equipment, and performing preventative maintenance. Responsibilities include collaborating across teams, reporting issues following established procedures, and ensuring data security standards are met. The role requires experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware, server hardware, and networking protocols, along with the ability to perform component-level repairs. Physical stamina and the ability to work non-standard hours are essential.
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Troubleshooting OS, computer & server hardware
- Networking protocol experience
- Component-level IT equipment repair
- Ability to lift 50lbs & work physically demanding hours
- Data center procedures & security knowledge
Good to have:
- 4+ years server maintenance & monitoring
- Data center/network operations center experience
- Linux OS experience
- Project management & leadership experience
- Team collaboration skills

Job Details
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.
- Experience with networking protocols.
- Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment.
- Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedules.
Preferred qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
- Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- Experience in project management and leadership.
- Experience collaborating and partnering with teams.
- Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges.

- Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across teams.
- Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose somewhat complex issues with equipment or infrastructure as they arise, and apply the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
- Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for non-standard data security issues (e.g., data was not properly erased) managed in accordance with Google security standards.
- Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance, within one or more teams.
- Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with multiple solutions.
