Job Description

The Data Engineer will support and enhance the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS), a critical application for communicable disease tracking. The role involves modernizing and maintaining the platform, leading the development of scalable solutions using AWS, designing and maintaining ETL pipelines, managing data workflows, implementing and managing Databricks, Elastic Search, and Kibana, writing code in Python or Scala, working with Oracle databases, CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps), and contributing to Agile ceremonies. The candidate will also support other applications and mentor development teams.
Must have:
  • Develop complex database systems (12+ years)
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Experience with Elastic Search and Kibana
  • Experience with Python/Scala
  • Experience with Oracle
  • Experience with ETL processes and data pipelines
  • Experience with AWS Cloud
  • Experience with data warehousing and data visualization tools
  • Experience with CMM/CMMI Level 3 methods
  • Experience with Agile development practices, including TDD
Good to have:
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps

Role Description: 

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Engineer to support and enhance the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) — a critical application used for communicable disease tracking and response. You will play a pivotal role in modernizing and maintaining this essential public health platform.

 

You’ll be responsible for (Responsibilities): 

  • Lead development of scalable, high-performance solutions using AWS.
  • Design and maintain robust ETL pipelines and manage data workflows.
  • Implement and manage Databricks, Elastic Search, and Kibana.
  • Write clean and efficient code in Python or Scala.
  • Work with Oracle databases, CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps), and source control (Git).
  • Create design documentation, perform code reviews, and contribute to Agile ceremonies.
  • Support other critical applications and mentor development teams.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 12+ years of experience in developing complex database systems.
  • 8+ years of experience with:
    • Databricks
    • Elastic Search and Kibana
    • Python/Scala
    • Oracle
  • 5+ years of experience with:
    • ETL processes and data pipelines
    • AWS Cloud
    • Data warehousing and data visualization tools
    • CMM/CMMI Level 3 methods
    • Agile development practices, including test-driven development
Preferred Skills
    • 3+ years of experience or knowledge with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps

 

You’ll have (Qualification & Experience):

  •  Bachelor's Degree in related field is required.
