Job Description

As a Data Scientist at AOL, you will shape the future of our audience-facing products and applications. You will use data and analytics to identify and solve product development's biggest challenges. Good To Have:
  • MS in Statistics, Mathematics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent.
  • Experience leveraging data analytics to guide personalization strategies.
Must Have:
  • 3+ years of analytics experience using SQL and Python/R.
  • 2+ years solving problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Communicate findings effectively to product teams and executives.
  • BS in Statistics, Mathematics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in data visualization tools such as Looker.

A Little About Us

The Consumer Analytics team serves as the primary source for data products (experimentation, insights, modeling, etc.). The team’s main objectives are to partner with Product, Editorial, and Marketing stakeholders in their objectives by providing technical guidance and data products that back strategic product decisions. 

As a Data Scientist at AOL, you will shape the future of our audience-facing products and applications. By applying your technical skills, analytical mindset, and product intuition to a very rich data set, you will help define the experiences we build for millions of people around the world. You will collaborate on a wide array of product and business problems with cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Research, Marketing, and others. You will use data and analytics to identify and solve product development's biggest challenges. You will influence product strategy and investment decisions with data, be focused on impact, and collaborate with other teams.

A Lot About You

Your Day

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to inform, influence, support, and execute product strategy and investment decisions.

  • Work with product teams to understand business problems, frame the problem into questions that can be answered with data, formulate analysis plans, analyze data, and derive actionable insights.

  • Communicate your findings effectively with product partners and executives to drive product and business decisions.

  • Work with product, design, editorial, and engineering teams to provide requirements and guidance on tracking and instrumentation standards, data validation,  A/B test design, set up and measurement.

  • Apply technical expertise with quantitative analysis, experimentation, data mining, and the presentation of data to leadership to develop strategies for our products that serve millions of people.

  • Create dashboards and reports to provide transparency to data and metrics.  Drive reporting optimization through continued improvement in production & visualization.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Statistics, Mathematics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent.

  • 3+ years of experience in analytics, using SQL and Python/R.

  • 2+ years of experience solving problems using quantitative approaches, understanding ecosystems, user behaviors & long-term product trends, and leading data-driven projects from definition to execution including defining metrics, experiment design, communicating actionable insights.

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate the findings to product teams and executives and influence product and business decisions. Ability to explain complex analytical concepts to non-experts.

  • Proficient in data visualization tools such as Looker.

Preferred

  • MS in Statistics, Mathematics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent.

  • Experience leveraging data analytics to define and guide personalization strategies.

The compensation for this position ranges from $111,000.00 - $231,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions. Our comprehensive benefits include healthcare, a great 401k, backup childcare, education stipends and much (much) more.
